Frollo, l'archidiacre de Notre Dame est tombé amoureux de la gitane Esméralda. Accusée de vol il lui accorde l'asile mais elle refuse ses avances et s'enfuit. Quasimodo le sonneur de cloches difforme et bossu la rattrape, Pierre Gringoire, un poète de rue tente de la faire échapper mais se fait assommer par Quasimodo. Ce dernier est finalement intercepté par les hommes de la garde royale commandé par Phoebus. Esmeralda tombe amoureuse de ce dernier. Pendant ce temps Pierre Gringoire est capturé par l'assemblé des voleurs et des vagabonds qui le condamne à la pendaison. Esméralda refuse ce jugement et le prend pour époux (pendant quatre ans) uniquement pour lui sauver la vie. Quasimodo est condamné à recevoir le fouet et à être exposé au pilori, Esméralda a pitié de lui et lui donne à boire. Frollo, apprenant qu'Esméralda a rendez-vous dans un hôtel borgne avec Phoebus se rend sur les lieux et poignarde le militaire. Esméralda est capturée, soupçonnée, torturée, jugée et condamnée à la pendaison. Quasimodo la sauve et la fait se réfugier dans l'église. Phoebus a survécu mais se refuse à intervenir pour casser la condamnation d'Esméralda qui repousse toujours les avances de Frollo. Ce dernier demande donc au parlement un édit annulant le droit d'asile de la jeune femme. Apprenant la nouvelle, Gringoire pousse l'assemblée des voleurs et des vagabonds à attaquer la cathédrale pour tenter de sauver la jeune femme. Quasimodo se méprenant sur les intentions des assaillants les empêche d'entrer en lançant de lourds projectiles.

London-based gangster George Thomason and his right-hand man, Ken Pile, an animal lover with a bad stutter, plan a jewel heist. They bring in two Americans to help: con artist Wanda Gershwitz and "weapons man" Otto West, a loud-mouthed Anglophobe who fancies himself an intellectual and hates being (correctly) called stupid. Wanda and Otto are lovers, but they hide this from George and Ken, pretending to be brother and sister, so Wanda can work her charms on them. The robbery goes well, and the thieves get away with a large sum in diamonds. However, they are briefly spotted during their getaway by Mrs. Coady, an elderly lady walking her three dogs. The group then hide the loot in a safe in an old workshop. Soon after, Wanda and Otto betray George to the police and he is arrested. They return to collect the loot, with Wanda planning to double-cross Otto as well, only to find that George has moved it. Wanda decides to seduce George's barrister, Archie Leach, so that he can persuade George to plead guilty and give up the location of the diamonds. Unhappily married, Leach is brow-beaten by his vindictive wife, Wendy, and spoiled daughter, Portia, and he quickly comes under the spell of Wanda's charms.

The story follows the escape of two men from an Alaska prison, the efforts of a railroad dispatch office to safely stop the out-of-control train they are on, and the hunt by their warden to recapture them. Oscar "Manny" Manheim is a ruthless bank robber and hero to the convicts of Stonehaven Maximum Security Prison. After two previous escape attempts the doors to Manny's cell have been welded shut for three years. A court order compels Manny's nemesis, the vindictive and sadistic Associate Warden Ranken, to release him back into the general prison population. Manny intends to break out a third time with his older brother Jonah Manheim, but is forced to set his escape plan into action in the middle of winter. Ranken employs a serial killer to give Manny the incentive, by stabbing him grievously through his left hand. Jonah fatally stabs the serial killer to death in retaliation, and in turn is severely beaten by the prison guard, leaving him in a high-security hospital wing.

Kara Zor-El (Helen Slater) lives in an isolated Kryptonian community called Argo City, in a pocket of trans-dimensional space. British agent 009 is found dead at the British embassy in East Berlin, dressed as a circus clown and carrying a fake Fabergé egg. MI6 immediately suspects Soviet involvement and, after seeing the real egg appear at an auction in London, sends James Bond—agent 007—to investigate and find out who the seller is. At the auction Bond is able to swap the real egg with the fake and engages in a bidding war with exiled Afghan prince Kamal Khan, forcing Khan to pay £500,000 for the fake egg. Bond follows Khan back to his palace in Rajasthan, India, where Bond defeats Khan in a game of backgammon. Bond escapes with his Indian colleague Vijay, evading Khan's bodyguard Gobinda's attempts to kill them both. Bond is seduced by one of Khan's associates, Magda, and notices that she has a blue-ringed octopus tattoo. Magda steals the real Fabergé egg fitted with a listening device by Q, while Gobinda captures Bond and takes him to Khan's palace. After Bond escapes from his cell he listens in on the bug in the Fabergé egg and discovers that Khan is working with Orlov, a Soviet general, who is seeking to expand Soviet control into Central Europe.
