Il finit par céder à la curiosité et se retrouve embarqué dans ce jeu". Comprenant progressivement ce que l'on attend de lui, et voulant faire marche arrière, il reçoit l’appel d’un mystérieux inconnu qui le force à identifier un passager caché dans le train. Refusant de croire au surnaturel et à l'au-delà, le professeur Phillip Goodman présente une émission de télévision où il démasque les charlatans qui affirment être en contact avec le monde des morts. Alors qu'il accepte sa proposition malgré sa méfiance des superstitions, Goodman fait face à trois cas d'apparitions paranormales inexpliquées reliées entre elles par certains détails : un gardien de nuit, veuf depuis la mort de sa femme et qui a abandonné sa fille malade, est visité par le spectre d'une jeune fille qui travaillait dans un asile ; un adolescent pense avoir renversé le Diable dans les bois ; enfin, un financier est hanté par l'esprit de son enfant mort-né. Petit à petit, Goodman remet en questions ses croyances et se pense en danger.

In the late 2030s, solar flares irradiate the Earth, killing over 99% of the world's population. The survivors gather in a network of safe cities and build primitive humanoid robots, called Pilgrims, to help rebuild and operate in the harsh environment. These robots have two unalterable protocols: they can not harm any form of life, and they may not modify any robot. Initially seen as mankind's salvation, they are relegated to manual labor when they fail to stop the advance of desertification. Society has regressed due to lack of technology besides the Pilgrims (lack of functional planes or other transport prevents travel and cars are a rare commodity) and humanity is on the brink of collapsing.

The documentary follows horror movie fan and journalist Tal Zimerman as he tries to look at the reasons why people enjoy the horror genre. The genre is globally popular and is present in a wide variety of formats such as films, books, music, graphic novels, artwork, and video games, yet reactions to it can sometimes be polarized and in some instances Tal feels that the genre's fans are misunderstood. At the same time, Tal is conflicted over how he can be "disturbed by gruesome imagery showcased in the news, but thrives on blood and guts found in movies, books, music, graphic novels and video games" and as such sets out to try to find how horror affects his mind. For his research Tal interviews several different people, from genre filmmakers and writers to scientists and psychologists, to uncover why people enjoy horror and how perception, traditions, and beliefs help impact how horror is perceived and displayed in various countries and globally as a whole.
