Anna Polony (born 21 January 1939 in Kraków) is a Polish theatre and film actress. Later into her career she has also been active as a theatre director.
She studied acting in Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Kraków and graduated in 1960. Additionally she studied theatrical directing in the School and graduated in 1984.
Polony's theatrical debut was Jerzy Kaliszewski's adaptation of Jean Giraudoux's play Wojny trojańskiej nie będzie (The Trojan War Will Not Take Place) in 1959 at the Stary Teatr (Old Theatre) in Kraków. She was engaged with the theatre from 1964 to 2002. She collaborated in several plays with a renowned Polish director Konrad Swinarski.
Her career has begun in 1974 when she directed William Gibson's Two for the Seesaw. Later she became one of the most prominent directors of the Old Theatre. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Polony as theatre director she gained nationwide recognition and success.
The most notable plays she directed include: Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party, Sławomir Mrożek's Wdowy, and Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.

This film is set in Warsaw in the 1950s, with a few flash-forwards to present-day Warsaw. Prior to the events of the film: Ewa is the mother of 22-year-old Majka. She was unable to have any more children after Majka, although she would have liked to. She became head-mistress of a school where she hired a literature professor, Wojtek. Wojtek met and fell in love with then-16-year-old Majka, who got pregnant and had a daughter, Ania. This story follows a young student, who is orphaned as she grows to adulthood in the shadow of the 1956 Hungarian uprising. Coming from the Communist intelligentsia, she sees her friends and family react differently. Her lover, a married factory manager, supports the patriots and later assists fellow workers in staging a strike. Meanwhile her sister and others express anger at being forced from their homes during the revolution and continue to express a hatred for the rebels afterwards. But in the end they realize that for all people, real life is not possible after the revolt and its brutal suppression by the Soviets and their collaborators.
