Arsinée Khanjian (Western Armenian: Արսինէ Խանճեան, Eastern Armenian: Արսինե Խանջյան; born 6 September 1958) is an Armenian-Canadian actress and producer. In addition to her independent work and stage roles, she is regularly cast by her husband, Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan, in his films. She has a bachelor's degree in French and Spanish from Concordia University and a master's degree in political science from the University of Toronto. Her husband, Egoyan, credits her for inspiring him to further explore his Armenian roots. She lives in Toronto with her husband and their son, Arshile.
Khanjian was a jury member for the Cinéfoundation and Short Films sections at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

Biography
La famille de Khanjian émigre du Liban au Canada, à Montréal (Québec) lorsqu'Arsinée a 17 ans. Elle étudie le théâtre au Conservatoire Lassalle et obtient une licence en espagnol et en français de l'Université Concordia. Alors qu'elle répète une pièce de théâtre à Montréal, elle rencontre le cinéaste Atom Egoyan, qui fait un casting pour Next of Kin (1984). Après avoir décroché le premier rôle dans le film d'Egoyan, Khanjian s'installe à Toronto et obtient une maîtrise en sciences politiques de l'Université de Toronto. Elle devient l'épouse, la muse et l'actrice fétiche d'Egoyan et joue dans pratiquement tous ses films, notamment Exotica (1994), De beaux lendemains (1997), Ararat (2002), La Vérité nue (2005), et Adoration (2008).Khanjian fait également du théâtre et joue dans la version française de Dancing at Lughnasa de Brian Friel, ainsi que dans plusieurs films français dont Irma Vep (1996) et Fin août, début septembre (1998) d'Olivier Assayas, Code inconnu (2000) de Michael Haneke avec Juliette Binoche, À ma sœur ! At a police station in Niagara Falls, Ontario, new detective Jeffrey Cornwall is sitting down for a job interview with Nicole Dunlop who works in the Internet Child Exploitation Unit. He recoils in disgust after seeing the images related to open cases and Nicole tells him that these are the images he will have to see every day. Meanwhile, Niagara Falls resident Matthew Lane picks his nine year old daughter Cassandra up from the arena after her figure skating practice. He comments that her wearing one white skate and one black skate is an unnecessary gimmick given her skill. On the way back, Matthew stops to pick up pie, leaving Cassandra in the car. Minutes later he returns to find her missing and calls out to no success. He reports the abduction to the police station where Dunlop and Cornwall are assigned to the case. Cassandra's mother Tina Lane arrives and breaks down in a fit of fury directed at Matthew.

The story, drawn from La masseria delle allodole, the best-selling novel by Antonia Arslan, tells about the Avakian clan, an Armenian family living in Turkey and having two houses. The Avakians feel convinced that the rising tide of Turkish hostility on the horizon means little to them and will scarcely affect their day to day. The Avakians do not pay attention to the warning signs, and set about preparing for a family reunion with the impending visit of two well-to-do sons - landowner Aram, who resides in Turkey, and Assadour, a physician living in Venice. These illusions come crashing down when a Turkish military regiment crops up at the house, annihilates every male member of the family and forces the ladies to trek off into the Syrian desert, where they will be left to rot. With them goes one of the little boys of the family, who was dressed into a girl in order not to be killed. Meanwhile, a handsome Turkish officer (Moritz Bleibtreu) falls in love with Aram's daughter and makes an aggressive attempt to deliver her from certain death, even as the circumstances surrounding him attest to the astounding difficulty of doing so.

The film features several different storylines, all of which intersect periodically throughout the film. The film's opening scene features a brief encounter with four of the main characters: Anne Laurent (Juliette Binoche) is an actress working in Paris, and she walks briefly with her boyfriend's younger brother Jean. After they part, Jean throws a piece of garbage at Maria, a homeless woman sitting on the side of the road. Amadou, the child of Malian immigrants, witnesses this and confronts Jean. The two fight, and eventually Amadou and Maria are both taken to a police station for questioning. Amadou is released presumably shortly after, though we learn that he was held, beaten and shamed, but Maria is deported to her native Romania and she reconnects with her family there.
