Athena Chu, de son vrai nom Chu Yan (朱茵, née le 25 octobre 1971), est une actrice et chanteuse hongkongaise connue pour son rôle de « Volute de soie » dans Le Roi singe (1995).
Chu fait ses études à la Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts de 1990 à 1992, au cours desquelles elle anime des émissions pour enfants sur la chaîne TVB.
Après son diplôme en 1992, Chu fait ses débuts au cinéma dans Fight Back to School 2 (1992), ce qui lui vaut une nomination au Hong Kong Film Award du nouveau meilleur artiste. Chu commence à attirer l'attention du public avec son interprétation de Huang Rong dans le téléfilm de wuxia The Legend of the Condor Heroes (1994).

Biography
Née à Kowloon en 1971, Chue est la fille d'un professeur de mathématiques qui ouvrira plus tard une entreprise avec sa mère.Chu fait ses études à la Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts de 1990 à 1992, au cours desquelles elle anime des émissions pour enfants sur la chaîne TVB.

Rose Fairy is sailing along the river when she suddenly trips on a rope and falls into the water. The trap is set by the bandit Qingyise, who wants to rob her. He steals the Purple Sword from her and plans to sell it. Just then, Joker (the protagonist in A Chinese Odyssey) appears and makes Qingyise unsheathe the sword by pulling away its scabbard. Rose Fairy regains consciousness and mistakenly thinks it was Qingyise who unsheathed the sword. In June 2000, a group of Fuzhou people spend a fortune for various reasons to be smuggled to the United Kingdom. They are first sent to Quailin, before crossing the border to Vietnam. After waiting there for fake documents for flying to Moscow, they head to the Netherlands. They are unable to travel to Moscow as the people smugglers are detected. The plan is changed and all the illegal immigrants have to travel to Ukraine by car, then walk across the border to the Czech Republic through snowstorms. They are able to sneak into the Netherlands and hide in a truck to enter into the United Kingdom, but the airtight space in the truck results in the deaths of 58 people, leaving only 2 survivors.

Hong Kong's gambling champion Cool (Louis Koo) was once boundlessly glorious, specializing in a card-flying stunt that reputed the gambling world. In Asia, only Japan's Tetsuo (Yasuaki Kurata) is considered a worthy opponent to Cool. Cool is bent on defeating Tetsuo to become Asia's number one. To gain this title, Cool works hard to improve his gambling skills, but was framed by his god-brother Yeung Kwong (Ben Lam), who tricks Cool's girlfriend, Karen (Athena Chu), and marries her. Cool rushes into the wedding hall and falls into Yeung's trap. Karen sees through Yeung's scheme and while protecting Cool, she gets shot and becomes a vegetable as a result. However, since Karen was leaglly married to Yeung, Cool was unable take her away back to Hong Kong and Cool retires from the gambling world and opens a Chinese restaurant in Japan and everyday, Cool would secretly take a look at the unconscious Karen.

Tong Shan (Donnie Yen) is a doctor who returns from Britain to Shanghai after graduating from medical school.
