Avangard Nikolaïevitch Leontiev (en russe : Аванга́рд Никола́евич Лео́нтьев), né le 27 février 1947 à Moscou, est un acteur soviétique, puis, russe de théâtre et cinéma, professeur d'art dramatique, distingué comme artiste du peuple de la Fédération de Russie en 1995.
En 1995, l'artiste reçoit le prix d'État de la Fédération de Russie pour le rôle de Tchitchikov dans le spectacle Numéro d'hôtel dans la ville NN (Numer v gostinitse goroda NN) inspiré des Âmes mortes de Nicolas Gogol adapté par Valeri Fokine
À partir de 2004, Leontiev fait partie de la troupe du Théâtre d'art Anton Tchekhov.

Biography
Né à Moscou, Avangard Leontiev porte le prénom de son frère aîné, sous-lieutenant de l'aviation mort au combat lors de la bataille de Koursk en 1943. Il rêve très tôt d'une carrière artistique et fréquente le studio d'art dramatique de son école, puis celui de la Maison des pionniers du Pereoulok Stopani (à partir de 1994, Pereoulok Ogorodnaïa Sloboda) du district Basmanny chez Anna Bovchek, élève de Constantin Stanislavski et Evgueny Vakhtangov. Il fait ensuite les études dans la classe de Pavel Massalski à l'École-studio MKhAT. Diplômé en 1968, il devient acteur du Théâtre Sovremennik.En 1995, l'artiste reçoit le prix d'État de la Fédération de Russie pour le rôle de Tchitchikov dans le spectacle Numéro d'hôtel dans la ville NN (Numer v gostinitse goroda NN) inspiré des Âmes mortes de Nicolas Gogol adapté par Valeri Fokine

The story is set in a prisoner of war camp in November 1920, in the Crimea, after the evacuation of the White Army, with several dozen thousand of White officers left behind on the peninsula. The officers are unaware of their impending doom, waiting for their fate to be decided by the Red Army officials. One of them —an unnamed captain (Mārtiņš Kalita) —is haunted by the memories of a dramatic and brief romance of 1907 and tries to understand how the Russian Empire fell apart and who is to blame.

Jane Callahan (Julia Ormond), a beautiful American lady, writes to her son, a cadet at a famous military academy, about a long kept secret. Twenty years ago she arrived in Russia to assist Douglas McCracken (Richard Harris), an obsessive engineer who needs the Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich's patronage to sponsor his invention, a massive machine to harvest the forests. On her travels, she meets two men who would change her life forever: a handsome young cadet Andrej Tolstoy (Oleg Menshikov) with whom she shares a fondness for opera, and the powerful General Radlov who is entranced by her beauty and wants to marry her. Tolstoy and Radlov, much to the surprise and indignation of the latter, become rivals for Jane's love. She confides a deep secret to Tolstoy, promises to marry him, and together they spend a passionate night of love. But later he overhears Jane denying her interest in him to the General, in order to win the general's favour and be granted an audience with the Grand Duke. Distraught, Tolstoy attacks the General who arrests his young rival on false charges and banishes him to Siberia to seven years of hard labor and five years of isolation.

The Soviet Union, summer 1936. Comdiv Sergei Petrovich Kotov, his wife Maroussia (Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė), and their young daughter Nadia are relaxing in a banya, when they are suddenly interrupted. A peasant from the local collective farm explains that the Soviet Army's tanks are about to crush the wheat harvest as part of general maneuvers. Although annoyed to be bothered during his vacation, Kotov rides on horseback to where the tank crews are confronting outraged peasants.
