Tim and his friend Can (Elyas M’Barek) go to bars and pretend that one is looking for a date for his friend, who is supposedly deathly ill, and needs one last roll in the hay. Thus Tim (Max Riemelt) meets Marie (Anna Fischer) and they fall in love. Marie must care for her older, ill sister Edda (Jessica Schwarz) who spends a lot of time in bed awaiting death. Marie still believes that Tim has fatal cancer, but Edda (who can judge from her own experience) knows that Tim is putting on an act.

Six year-old Cenk Yılmaz begins to question his identity in his German school one day when he isn't chosen for either the German or the Turkish soccer team. He is the son of Ali, of Turkish heritage, and his German wife, Gabi, and Cenk cannot speak Turkish. At a family meal his Grandmother Fatma declares to the family her newly acquired German citizenship. At the same meal, Grandfather Hüseyin tells the family that he has bought a house in Turkey that he wants to use as a summer home. During a meeting between Opel and the advertising agency Brainstorm, Viktor Vogel sneaks in and offers his views on how the agency's new campaign is boring and lacking in irony. This helps the already dissatisfied Opel people tell Brainstorm they need to come up with a new idea as they leave. After some discussion at Brainstorm the agency decides that they need to find Viktor, whom they threw out after the meeting, and hire him to work on the campaign. Eventually Viktor becomes the partner of Edward Kaminsky, a veteran ad man who is hoping to retire soon and they begin work on an idea that will keep Brainstorm alive through Opel's money.
