Chandan Roy Sanyal (born 30 January) is an Indian actor who is known for his work in the Hindi and Bengali language films of India. After graduating with a degree in mathematics, he made his acting debut in the 2006 film Rang de Basanti, in a minor role. He then received critical acclaim for his supporting roles in the 2009 caper thriller film Kaminey and in his Bengali debut, the 2010 film Mahanagar@Kolkata. Sanyal then went on to receive recognition for his performances in the 2012 Bengali drama film Aparajita Tumi and as an insomniac artist in the 2013 romantic drama Prague.

Anuradha Verma (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is a prominent criminal lawyer and a single mother who has never lost a case. One day her daughter Sanaya (Sara Arjun) is kidnapped and no ransom is demanded, but instead the kidnapper contacts her and tells her that she has to defend a convicted felon to get her daughter back. The felon is Miyaaz Shaikh (Chandan Roy Sanyal) who is convicted for rape and murder of a young woman and the case against him is set for judgment in four days. The kidnapper keeps track of Anuradha very closely to make sure she complies with his demand. With the pressure of time against her, Anuradha tries to get help from her suspended police friend Yohan (Irrfan Khan) who has been suspended from the police force for flaunting the rules and regulations too often. The case against Miyaaz Shaikh is handled by a renowned public prosecutor (Atul Kulkarni) who has been defeated by Anuradha and hence has a long time professional rivalry against her. Anuradha races against time and saves her daughter by twisting the laws to win the case.

A family drama based on two families belonging to the polar opposite Bengali and Marwari communities, the film centers on childhood friendship, a probable wedding and above all the triumph of young love. Drama unfolds when both the families come to know about Saban, Arjun, and their plan to elope. Just when Saban is to be married to a U.S.-based computer engineer Niky. Underlying tensions erupt and bubble to the surface, each family blames the other. Amidst this entire ruckus, Saban is locked inside her room and attempts suicide. She is rushed to the hospital where they refuse to let Arjun visit her. On the other hand, Pushupati is constantly threatened by the local goon Krishnagopal Das to vacate his property. Navin the brother of Praveen Agarwal who has had his eyes set on the property for a long time is carrying out this plan. Arjun intervenes and is mortally injured; he is rushed to the I.C.U. where immediate blood is needed. Pashupati willingly steps in to donate blood and their blood groups miraculously match each other. In the process, Pashupati saves Arjun's life. The two families eventually unite and it seems that a wedding is in store after all.

Pradip and Kuhu, an NRI couple with two children, start having problems because of Kuhu's straightforward nature and blatant comments which end up hurting people. Ushoshi and Ronojoy are another couple. While Ronojoy seems to be a cynical workaholic who is not bothered about the voids in his life, Ushoshi is extremely sensitive about things like their childlessness. As Kuhu repeatedly hurts the insecure Ushoshi, Pradip finds himself empathizing with her, and they eventually end up having an affair. Kuhu moves out with her children, whom she temporarily places in the care of her parents, while she takes time to think about her next step. Meanwhile, she has a brief encounter with ex-boyfriend Yusuf, which brings back nostalgic old memories, pain and loneliness. While Yusuf is clearly interested in a relationship, Kuhu is cold and distant, which finally drives him away.
