Seetha, born in an orthodox Hindu family, falls in love with the lower-caste Unni and later elopes with him to Bombay. Four years later, one day, Unni goes missing at Bombay. Seetha is pregnant and had to return to her native place. Through a newspaper report, Seetha comes to know that Unni has committed suicide after knowing he was infected with HIV. The heart-broken Seetha is isolated by the society and even by her parents who believe that she is also infected. Abu, a kind-hearted Muslim ferryman is her only help. Hated and isolated by the society, Abu and Seetha has to face lot of troubles. One day, filmmaker Lohithadas, a friend of Unni, visits Seetha and informs her that Unni was killed by the Bombay underworld and the AIDS-news was all crafted by the wicked media. Meanwhile, some people try to kick Seetha out of the village and burn her house. The film ends with Seetha, her new-born baby and Abu fleeing to another village.

Palayam Murukan (Manoj K. Jayan) is the underworld goonda leader ruling Palayam market in Kozhikode City. The movie speaks about the life of Madhavankutty (Mammootty), locally known as "Hitler" due to his tough character, domineering personality and his uncontrolled rage at the youngsters of the area, for stalking his five young sisters. Even though he loves his family more than anything in this world, he fails to express his love. He had been looking after the family since the death of their mother. Their father Pillechan (Innocent) is married again with two daughters and his children from the first marriage do not even speak with him (Madhavankutty's uncle Gangadhara Menon is responsible for the separation between the children and Pillechan, which is revealed in a later part of the story). Madhavankutty's marriage was fixed with his cousin Gauri (Shobhana) and his sister Ammu’s (Vani Viswanath) marriage with Gauri's brother Balachandran (Mukesh). Once in Madhavankutty's absence, Balachandran sneaked in to his house to be with Ammu, but get caught which results in hostility between the two families and Madhavankutty opposes any of the decided marriages to happen between the families. Balachandran on the other hand wants to make them happen.

Jayadeva Sharma hails from an aristocratic Brahmin family. However his family's fortunes disappears and he is fostered by a goldsmith. Eventually he is betrayed by Ananthapadmanabhan, a man who he thinks is Athira's boy friend. To get his money back, he disguises as a sage with the help of his friends Premadasan and gets into the house of Athira's grand father, Kunnamanagalam Neelakantan Vaidyar as a guest. Jayadevan's and Athira's friendship blooms after he saves her from Balagopalan, who is a cousin of her. Premadasan end up falling in love with Vasumathi who is also a cousin of Athira. Near the climax on Athira's wedding day, Jayadevan is held hostage by Ananthapadmanabhan and is saved by Premadasan. At the end Athira's fiancé is caught and Athira and Jayadevan unites.
