Russian Prince Dmitri Nekhlyudov (Fredric March) seduces innocent young Katusha Maslova (Anna Sten), a servant to his aunts. The story takes place in the Russian Empire during the last years of the reign of Czar Nicholas II and the Czarina Alexandra.
