Dan Schneider (born January 14, 1966) is an American actor, television and film writer, and producer. After appearing in mostly supporting roles in a number of 1980s and 1990s films and TV shows, Schneider devoted himself to behind-the-scenes work in production. He is the co-president of television production company Schneider's Bakery.

On the first day of summer, dim-witted but kind-hearted Ed has a nightmare about talking hamburgers. Troubled by it, he shows up late to work at Good Burger. On the same morning, Dexter, a high school student, steals his mother's car after she leaves for a business trip. He accidentally crashes into his teacher Mr. Wheat's car. With no driver's license or insurance, Dexter is liable to go to jail. Wheat agrees that he will not call the police if Dexter pays $1,900 to cover the damage. In need of money, Dexter gets a job at Mondo Burger, but after a clash with the strict manager, Kurt Bozwell, he is fired. Dexter then finds work at Good Burger, where he meets and reluctantly befriends Ed and a slew of colorful employees.

Christopher (Dempsey) is a very serious minded young man. Enrolling into college as a freshman he finds his roommate is someone named Alex. Alex (Slater), however, is not male but female and the two have been placed together by a computer error. Christopher finds the pairing intolerable and tries his best to find another place to live. The dorms are full and he is resigned, at least for the time being, to make the best of his current situation. Alex, a seemingly extroverted party girl, shows little interest in academics and treats Christopher as if he is simply an annoyance to be brushed aside whenever need be. As fate intervenes, the two slowly begin to realize that they do like one another after all which manifests itself into a sexual relationship wherein each finds a need filled by the other.

Jason Shepherd is a 14-year-old chronic liar living in the fictional town of Greenbury, Michigan who is constantly deceiving and misleading his way out of trouble.
