Diahnne Abbott (born January 1, 1945), sometimes credited as Diahnne Eugenia Abbott or Diahnne Déa, is an American actress and singer. Abbott played supporting roles in films of the 1970s and 1980s, including Taxi Driver. Abbott was married to actor Robert De Niro. They had a son together, Raphael, named after the hotel in Rome where he was conceived, and De Niro adopted Drena, Abbott's daughter from a previous marriage. (Drena De Niro has appeared in her father's movies Showtime, Wag the Dog and City by the Sea.) De Niro and Abbott divorced in 1988.
Abbott has a cameo in the film New York, New York, in which she sings Fats Waller's classic torch song, "Honeysuckle Rose".
She also played the object of Robert De Niro's affections in Scorsese's 1983 film, The King of Comedy, as well as roles in the television series Crime Story (character of Sonia) and the film Jo, Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling (Mother). She is the cousin of singer Gregory Abbott, known for his 1986 song "Shake You Down".

Before Night Falls is based on the autobiography of the same name by Cuban poet and novelist Reinaldo Arenas. In the film, Arenas, who was openly gay, is born in Oriente in 1943 and raised by his single mother and her parents, who soon move the entire family to Holguín. After moving to Havana in the sixties to continue his studies, Reinaldo begins to explore his ambitions, as well as his sexuality. After receiving an honorary mention in a writing contest, Arenas is offered the chance to publish his first work. Through his work and friendships with other openly gay men (such as Pepe Malas and Tomas Diego), Arenas manages to find himself.

Rupert Pupkin (De Niro), a stage-door autograph hound, is an aspiring stand-up comedian unsuccessfuly trying to launch his career. Travis Bickle, an honorably discharged U.S. Marine, is a lonely and depressed man in New York City. He becomes a taxi driver to cope with chronic insomnia, driving passengers every night around the boroughs of New York City. He also spends time in seedy porn theaters and keeps a diary. Travis becomes infatuated with Betsy, a campaign volunteer for Senator and presidential candidate Charles Palantine. After watching her interact with fellow worker Tom through her window, Travis enters to volunteer as a pretext to talk to her, and takes her out for coffee. On a later date, he takes her to see a Swedish sex education film, which offends her, and she goes home alone.
