Biography

Il apprend la guitare à l'âge de quatorze ans. Woody Guthrie et Ramblin' Jack Elliott figurent parmi les influences qui nourrissent sa culture musicale. Très bon instrumentiste, il se lie d'amitié avec de nombreux musiciens tels que Derroll Adams (les citations de Derroll et autres références dans la musique ne sont pas rares dans les chansons de Donovan), qui a sur lui une très grande influence, et à qui il doit la reconnaissance qui lui valut sa première apparition en 1965, à l'occasion d'une émission de TV anglaise qui le fit connaître auprès du grand public.

Il rencontre Mickie Most, producteur des Animals et de Herman's Hermits, qui le fait enregistrer avec les plus grands musiciens de studio de l'époque : Jack Bruce, Jimmy Page et John Paul Jones. Entre 1965 et 1970, il enchaîne les succès, avec des disques qui confirment son talent de mélodiste : Colours en 1965, Mellow Yellow et Sunshine Superman (n 1 aux États-Unis) en 1966, The Hurdy Gurdy Man en 1968 et Lalena en 1969.

Une très forte amitié le lie à de nombreux musiciens : le guitariste des Rolling Stones Brian Jones (dont il élève le fils), ou les Beatles, pour qui il aide à l'écriture et participe aux chœurs de la chanson Yellow Submarine. Il enseigne notamment à John Lennon et à George Harrison sa technique de picking à la guitare durant le séjour des Beatles en Inde au printemps 1968. Il affirme avoir joué un rôle important dans l'éveil de l'intérêt des Beatles pour la méditation transcendantale, et a développé depuis ce moment un grand intérêt pour la spiritualité orientale.

Il participe aux courants psychédélique, flower power et pacifiste des années 1960, et milite contre la guerre du Viêt Nam.

En 1971, il interprète le rôle titre du film américano-britannique Le Joueur de flûte de Jacques Demy dont il compose et interprète la musique.

Il reçoit le 18 janvier 2009, la médaille "d'Officier des Arts et des Lettres" par le ministre français de la Culture, Madame Christine Albanel.

Il participe en 2009 avec Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Mike Love des Beach Boys, Moby et autres artistes, à un concert de bienfaisance en faveur de la fondation David Lynch, dont il est un des fondateurs, pour encourager la pratique de la méditation transcendantale dans les écoles.

In 2006, Sieveking, the German director, lead character, and narrator of the film, feels adrift after graduating from film school. The film opens with a flashforward to moments after the shooting. This is quickly followed by a scene with Valerie Solanas (Lili Taylor) in custody for the shooting of Andy Warhol (Jared Harris). The film then takes us back to a time when Valerie is living in New York making a living as a sex worker. A series of further flashbacks point to her difficult childhood, and success in studying psychology at college. Here, Valerie discovers that she is a lesbian, that she can write, and that she has a distinctive view of the world. This leads her to New York City and its downtown underworld. Through her friend Stevie (Martha Plimpton), she meets Candy Darling (Stephen Dorff), who in turn introduces her to Andy Warhol.

During the American Civil War, Captain Robert Shaw is injured in the Battle of Antietam and sent home to Boston on medical leave. He visits his family there, where he meets the abolitionist Frederick Douglass, a former slave. Shaw is offered a promotion to the rank of Colonel to command the first all-black regiment in the Union Army, the 54th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He accepts and asks his childhood friend, 2nd Lieutenant Cabot Forbes, to serve as his second in command, with the rank of major. Their first volunteer is another friend, Thomas Searles, a bookish free African American. Other recruits soon follow, including gravedigger John Rawlins, timid freeman Jupiter Sharts and Silas Trip, an escaped slave who does not trust Shaw. Trip instantly clashes with Searles and Rawlins must keep the peace.

A meteorite crashes near Arborville, California. An elderly transient discovers, within the sphere, a massive slime mold-like substance (the Blob) that attaches itself to his hand. Three high school students, Brian, Meg and Paul, take him to a hospital. After Brian leaves, Paul witnesses the lower half of the transient melting from exposure to the Blob. As he calls for help, the Blob drops on top of him. Meg arrives to see Paul being devoured by the growing Blob. While she tries to free him, his arm dissolves off, Meg is thrown against a wall and knocked unconscious, and the Blob oozes out of the hospital.

The plot revolves around two heirs, Prince Frederick (Barry Gibb) and his brother Prince Marmaduke (Maurice Gibb), and their dying father (Frankie Howerd).
