Dušica Žegarac (Serbian Cyrillic: Душица Жегарац; born 15 April 1944) is a Serbian film and television actress. She began acting in 1960 and her first appearance was in France Štiglic's film The Ninth Circle (Deveti krug), for which she won the Golden Arena for Best Actress at the Pula Film Festival, the Yugoslav national film awards.

She won her second Golden Arena for starring in Zdravko Randić's 1971 film The Bet (Opklada).

The film takes place in Vukovar, a city on the border between Serbia and Croatia, in a country which used to be called SFR Yugoslavia, on the eve of the country's breakup. It is a typical love story, between a Croat woman Ana (Mirjana Joković) and a Serb man Toma (Boris Isaković), who marry one another with the blessing of both families right before the Battle of Vukovar. Their harmonic community is brutally broken apart with the start of a civil war. Not only they but everyone around them, against their will, are brought into the craziness of war which divides them from family and friends. Divided, living through hell, they still hope that the horrors of war will stop and that their newborn baby will be able to have a fresh start.

At St. Mary's College, a boarding school for girls located just outside Boston, Massachusetts, a lonely, gaunt, unattractive student, named Kathy (Milijana Zirojevic), becomes the center of a cruel practical joke perpetrated by a gang of students and the hunky, but sadistic gym teacher, Fred Vernon (Riccardo Acerbi). Kathy is tricked into going on a date with Mr. Vernon, but when she over eagerly makes her move onto him in his parked car in the woods, the students appear in their cars to taunt her. Running away from several carloads of her tormentors, Kathy runs onto a busy street where she immediately gets hit by an oncoming car and is admitted to the local hospital in a coma. Kathy's strange mother, Mary, continues to gloom around the school in her capacity as a cleaner.

The film follows the journey of a Kosovar pilgrim on his way back to Belgrade from the Middle East. While at a bazaar, the pilgrim buys a flute from a man who is visibly ill. Upon his return to Belgrade, the pilgrim starts to show signs of illness and is transported to the city's General Hospital. His disease is initially misdiagnosed and the smallpox virus starts spreading through the hospital very quickly. Once the disease is correctly identified, the authorities attempt to subdue the outbreak by declaring martial law, enforcing quarantine and enlisting the help of the World Health Organization. Eventually, these measures prove to be effective to subdue the epidemic.

During World War II in Zagreb, the capital city of Croatia, occupied by the Nazis. Ruth, a Jewish teenage girl of seventeen is good friends with Ivo, a nineteen-year-old catholic Croatian boy, and his family. The Germans are prosecuting Jews more and more, and Ruth's parents get arrested. Ivo's parents persuade him to marry Ruth and lead a fake marriage in order to save her. Ivo is reluctant since he already has a lovely girlfriend, Magda, and because his student friends are teasing him for rushing to marriage at such an early age. Ruth sees that she is causing him great pain and runs away, but Ivo brings her back and falls in love with her. Ruth is eventually brought to a concentration camp named The Ninth Circle. Ivo finds her and tries to make her escape, but the couple dies when they try to cross the electrified fence.
