Emma Gramatica (25 October 1874 – 8 November 1965), was an Italian stage and film actress. She appeared in 29 films between 1919 and 1962. She was born in Borgo San Donnino, today Fidenza, Province of Parma and died in Ostia.

Peppino Di Gennaro is a simple clerk who wants to make a career without success. After a friend gave him a photo taken during the First World War that shows him together with Benito Mussolini, he tries to take advantage of it getting an invitation from Duce, but the OVRA stops him every time. After numerous failed attempts he eventually succeeds in entering his office in the exact moment Mussolini was on the balcony announcing the Italian entry into the war; disappointed and embittered, Peppino goes away destroying the photo.

In Brescello, Don Camillo and Peppone decide to leave for Rome, after another tremendous fight. Don Camillo become monsignor, while Peppone honorable in the parliament of Deputies at Montecitorio. However the two have a pure and provincial spirit, not suitable to the cruelty of the city, and so they come back soon in their small town in the Po valley. While Don Camillo is planning, a betrayal, a wedding in a Catholic ceremony for the son of Peppone, the mayor tries to deceive the priest with a lucky win on the lottery. Don Camillo then responds with a proposed deal on the sale of a gas station. Since Peppone, being a Communist, can not deal with money, while he had won the lottery, decides to hide the ticket. Don Camillo unmasks him, and the two return to fight, while they are spreading once again to Rome.

À Paris, sœur Angèle, diplômée en médecine, n’a pas encore prononcé ses vœux définitifs. Sa congrégation la charge de s’occuper d'enfants malades nécessiteux. Lors de l’une de ses missions, elle est témoin d’un meurtre et aperçoit le coupable s'enfuyant. On lui confie ensuite la tâche d’aller accueillir, à Marseille, les religieuses rentrant en France avec des petits orphelins eurasiens après la fin de la guerre d’Indochine. C’est là-bas qu’elle reconnaît le meurtrier, Marcello, un Italien. Il lui avoue avoir assassiné sa victime, car elle l'avait malhonnêtement exploité. Sœur Angèle va alors s’appliquer à l'amener à se livrer à la police.

Mario Valentini est un entrepreneur ambitieux ; il convoite un terrain situé dans un quartier en mutation de sa ville, sur lequel est bâti une école primaire privée, afin de construire sur cette propriété foncière un ensemble immobilier. Son projet est déjà bien élaboré, les plans ont été conçus par un architecte et le financement est quasiment assuré par une banque. Il lui reste un épineux problème à régler pour le finaliser, l'acceptation, par mademoiselle Marini, la directrice de l'école, de la délocalisation de son établissement. Cette vieille enseignante méritante, très attachée à ce lieu d'enseignement, est obstinément opposée à ce départ et a toujours refusé les offres sonnantes et trébuchantes de Valentini.

Cristina (María Denis), une jeune domestique au service de deux vieilles dames, les sœurs Robbiano, vit une idylle partagée avec le neveu de celles-ci.
