Biography
Après des études au Dramatiska Institutet de Stockholm, il est directeur de la photographie du film Eggs de Bent Hamer. En 1998, il réalise son premier long métrage Schpaaa.Son film Utoya, 22 juillet sur le massacre d'Utøya perpétré le 22 juillet 2011 sur l'île d'Utøya est sélectionné en compétition officielle à la Berlinale 2018.

Lorsque dans la nuit du 8 au 9 avril 1940, la flotte allemande arrive pour envahir la Norvège, Curt Bräuer, l’émissaire de Hitler à Oslo, reçoit la mission d’apporter au gouvernement norvégien un ultimatum qui veut imposer l’occupation allemande. Cependant, le gouvernement refuse car la Norvège y perd sa souveraineté. Pendant ce temps, le colonel norvégien Birger Eriksen de la forteresse d'Oscarsborg fait tirer ses deux canons côtiers sur le croiseur allemand « Blücher » et le coule avec ses torpilles. Cela laisse un petit répit à Oslo et l’opportunité pour la famille royale de quitter la ville à l’aube du 9 avril, en train, pour la ville de Hamar, à 126km au Nord à l’intérieur des terres. Rebecca (Binoche) is a photo journalist obsessed with reporting in dangerous war zones. She documents a group of female suicide bombers in Afghanistan. As a teenager, Jan Thomas Hansen (Pål Sverre Valheim Hagen) and a friend run off with young boy Isak in a stroller left outside a cafe by the mother. The boy runs away, slips, and falls on a rock, suffering an apparently fatal head injury. Pressured by his friend, Jan Thomas, afraid of the consequences, carries the boy into a nearby river with a strong current, where he sets him adrift. Jan Thomas testifies that the boy was killed by the fall, but he is convicted of murder. While in jail, he plays the organ for church services.

Nils (Stellan Skarsgård) is a snow plough driver somewhere in Norway. He learns that his son has died, supposedly of a heroin overdose. Nils knows his son was no addict and starts a private investigation. Soon he finds out the local drug gang is behind the crime. He hunts down the two killers and kills both of them, but not before they confess. Luca Lucchesi is a single man who lives in his late grandmother's house. He keeps himself busy by translating instruction manuals from German into his native Norwegian. He occasionally phones his German clients to tell them "Ya gotta Eat", but apart from that his social contacts are reduced to a friendship with a show-off named Fillip who patronises him. Rino is very attracted to a till girl but each time he sees her in the supermarket he is dumbstruck and breaks into sweat. He expresses his fears by secretly drawing kafkaesque comix which are accessible for the film audience. One day after a night of watching porn and consuming plenty of convenience food he learns that his father has rented out a room to female foreigner. When the woman arrives,she explains to him she was from Sweden and intended to start over again in Norway. He doesn't ask why but he gets that information anyway when he eventually finds her helplessly drunk on the stairs to their flat. She tells him she had fallen in love with a family man who had returned to the mother of his children and she had hereby just repeated her big mistake. Next morning she sees him masturbating and later she even finds his comix. But when she leaves he has learnt enough from her to talk to his true love, the till girl, and ask her out successfully.
