Erik Schumann (15 February 1924 – 9 February 2007) was a German actor. He appeared in 100 films and television shows between 1942 and 1997. He starred in the 1964 film Time of the Innocent, which was entered into the 14th Berlin International Film Festival.

Biography

En plus d'une éducation musicale au piano et au trombone, il suit au conservatoire de Dresde une formation d'acteur. Il obtient en 1943 ses premiers engagements au Sächsische Staatstheater de Dresde, au Schlosspark Theater de Berlin, à Francfort-sur-le-Main, Stuttgart et Munich.

Son premier rôle au cinéma est une figuration dans un film de propagande, Semmelweis – Retter der Mütter. Il revient en Allemagne de l'ouest en 1954 dans Konsul Strotthoff. Il se fait connaître grâce à Ciel sans étoile. Il joue également dans de nombreuses productions de télévision.

Erik Schumann s'est marié deux fois (la première avec l'actrice Erika Dannhoff) et a deux enfants.

In post-war East Germany, Peter Gottfried is the son of minister Friedrich Gottfried. The Communist regime has decreed that all children of "dissidents" will be denied entry to a prestigious music conservatory. Peter is anxious to be accepted, and in order to get in he prepares to answer the seven questions required by the conservatory, the seventh of which will require him to deny his religious convictions. Before this can happen, he is invited by the Communist Party to perform at the Berlin Youth Festival. Friedrich protests, knowing that the Communists intend to use his son as a political pawn, to "prove" to the world that East Germany affords equal rights to clergymen. In the end, it is Peter himself who decides to quit the Festival and defect to the West.
