Biography
Né à New York, enfant unique, il découvre le théâtre en incarnant, à l'âge de sept ans, le rôle de Puck dans Le Songe d'une nuit d'été de Shakespeare. Il poursuit son activité durant ses années de lycée et d'université, et fait ses premiers pas professionnels en 1927. Après une parenthèse dans la finance, stoppée par le krach de 1929, Sloane retrouve le chemin de sa passion par le biais de la radio. Sa voix fait des merveilles dans des séries populaires telles que Buck Rogers, Crime Doctor ou The Shadow. Il fait ses débuts à Broadway en 1937 et son réseau radiophonique le met en contact avec le jeune Orson Welles. En octobre 1938, il participe au canular de La Guerre des Mondes, adaptation plus vraie que nature du roman de H. G. Wells Sloane apparait dans Citizen Kane (1941), premier film de Welles, mais trouvera plus à faire sur les planches que sur le grand écran.Best films

The film opens with the statement that the people of Troy must once a month sacrifice a maiden lest a sea monster destroy their city. Because of this, some families flee Troy only to be captured by pirates. Hercules (Gordon Scott), aboard the Olympia, comes across one of these ships and frees the Trojans aboard. Going to Troy, Hercules is given use of two horses that cannot be wounded by arrows. He then learns from Ortag (Roger Browne) the monster's weakness: its armor doesn't cover its belly.

Two American World War II veterans Jeff (John Ireland) and Chevern (Everett Sloane) reside as planters in an unnamed Southeast Asian nation. They are drawn into a conflict with a group of guerrillas led by Martin (Carl Esmond) and Vlad (Howard Caine) who have abducted a young American couple Tony (Al Avalon) and Easter (Jo Morrow) Banford. The two use their jungle fighting expertise and knowledge of the local land to rescue them and wipe out the guerrillas. Vincent van Gogh's obsessive devotion to his art engulfs, consumes, and finally destroys him. The apostate religious leaders do not like his zeal for God and they frown on his social activism and care for the poor in a coal mining town. He returns home to his father's house where he is rejected by a woman he obsessively loves, takes up with a prostitute who leaves because he is too poor, and discovers painting, which he pursues while agonizing that his vision exceeds his ability to execute. His brother, Theo van Gogh, provides financial and moral support, while Vincent lives off and on with the critical Paul Gauguin. Vincent begins experiencing hallucinations and seizures and voluntarily commits himself to a mental institution. He signs himself out, and with Theo's help, returns to a rural area to paint, where he ultimately shoots himself in despair of never being able to put what he sees on canvas.

In 1875 Argentina, a young gaucho kills another man in a duel. His prison sentence is commuted to join the army. He serves under the tough Major Salinas, but soon grows tired of military life and deserts. He becomes Val Verde and leads a band of gauchos to resist the increasing encroachment of railroad agents into the Pampas. In the meantime Salinas quits the army and becomes chief of police, so he can continue his vendetta against him. After falling in love with an aristocratic woman, Martin decides to escape with her to Chile, crossing the Andes on horseback. On the way Teresa tells him that she is pregnant, so they decide to return and get married instead, because of her safety and that for them is inconceivable for the child to be raised without a legitimate last name. When they arrive at the Cathedral, the police follows them so Martin has to escape again, leaving Teresa in the care of Father Fernandez. That night Miguel talks with Teresa about a deal he reached with the Governor, in which Martin voluntarily turns himself in, in exchange for a 3 year prison sentence and a clean slate. Teresa tells Miguel where Martin is hiding, but Salinas also follows, prompting a horse chase through a cattle run, that causes Miguel to fall from his horse and be trampled to death by the herd of cows. That same night, Martin returns filled with guilt to meet Teresa and while she offers to escape to Brazil or Europe, he declines and tells her to meet him at noon at the Cathedral. The next day Father Fernandez arranges a meeting alone with Salinas, where Martin agrees to turn himself in and face the consequences of his actions, as long as he can first marry Teresa as a free man.
