In 2009 Alvarez released his short film Ataque de Pánico! on YouTube. A few weeks later, Alvarez made a deal with Ghost House Pictures to direct a $30–$40 million sci-fi film. His first project with Ghost House ended up being the direction and co-writing of the Evil Dead remake. En 2009, Fede Alvarez s'est fait connaître grâce à son court métrage Ataque de Panico! sur YouTube, qui est devenu immédiatement populaire. Il s'est vu offrir la somme d'un million de dollars par Ghost House Pictures, la société de Sam Raimi, pour réaliser un film de science-fiction. Cependant, son premier projet avec Ghost House Pictures est le remake de Evil Dead, qui s'appelle aussi Evil Dead. Todd Hewitt est le seul enfant de Prentissville, un village d'hommes d'une planète coloniale surnommée « Nouveau Monde ».
