Frances Hyland OC (April 25, 1927 – July 11, 2004) was a Canadian stage, film and television actress.

Hyland studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, making her professional debut in London as Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire, opposite John Gielgud. In 1954, she returned to Canada, becoming a regular at the Stratford Festival in Ontario. Her roles there included Isabella (in Measure for Measure), Portia (in The Merchant of Venice), Olivia (in Twelfth Night), Perdita (in The Winter's Tale), Desdemona (in Othello) and Ophelia in (in Hamlet). She appeared in movies and on television, including a role on Road to Avonlea.

Biography

Hyland naît en 1927 à Shaunavon (Saskatchewan), une petite ville du sud-est de Swift Current. Ses parents sont Jessie Worden, une enseignante, et Thomas Hyland, un vendeur.

Frances Hyland obtient un diplôme de l'université de la Saskatchewan en 1948.

Hyland étudie à la Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Elle fait ses premières armes comme actrice à Londres dans le rôle de Stella dans Un tramway nommé Désir. En 1954, elle revient au Canada.

En 1970, elle reçoit l'Ordre du Canada, puis le Prix du Gouverneur général en 1994.
