She is best known for playing Lisa Hunter on Hollyoaks (2001–2005) and on three spin-off series, Hollyoaks: After Hours (2004), Hollyoaks: Let Loose (2005) and Hollyoaks: In the City (2006); for starring on Soapstar Superstar (2007) and I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! (2007); and for playing Tamzin Bayle on Casualty (2011–2014) and Carly Hope on Emmerdale (2015–present).
Atkinson has dated Cristiano Ronaldo and was once engaged to Marcus Bent. She then dated martial arts instructor Liam Richards; the two separating in 2013. She is now in a relationship with personal trainer and former rugby player Olly Foster.

Despite an approaching winter storm a near-empty airliner takes off from London for New York. One-by-one the passengers begin to disappear, while one passenger who frequents the route notices the plane has turned where it should be flying straight. Soon it is discovered that the pilots are dead and that the plane is on auto pilot; and it is revealed that two on board are hijackers who have murdered the pilots to take control of the plane.
