Biography
Il a commencé sa carrière à la télévision néo-zélandaise avant de se tourner vers le cinéma. Il a remporté plusieurs récompenses pour son travail, et notamment l'Oscar des meilleurs décors en 2004 pour Le Seigneur des anneaux : Le Retour du roi.Il a également réalisé les décors pour la cérémonie d'ouverture des Jeux du Commonwealth de 1990 et pour le pavillon néo-zélandais à l'occasion de l'exposition internationale de Brisbane et de l'exposition universelle de 1992.

An Angel at My Table is a dramatisation of the autobiographies of New Zealand author Janet Frame. Originally produced as a television mini-series, the film, as with Frame's autobiographies, is divided into three sections, with the lead role played by three actresses who portray Frame at different stages of her life: Karen Fergusson (child), Alexia Keogh (adolescent), and Kerry Fox (adult). The film follows Frame from when she grows up in a poor family, through her years in a mental institution, and into her writing years after her escape.

Dans une Chine déchirée par des guerres désastreuses entre les différentes écoles d'arts martiaux, Hadès Dai, le seigneur de l'école du "Lotus de l'Ouest", poussé par les visions d'une sorcière, cherche à s'emparer de l'épée "Destinée" afin d'obtenir le pouvoir suprême. Le Seigneur Dai envoie alors le jeune Wei Fang à Pékin pour dérober l'épée dans le palais du Seigneur Tié qui vient de décéder. Wei Fang est battu, puis emprisonné par Yu Shu Lien et son élève, la jeune Vase de neige. Yu Shu Lien comprend dès lors qu'il lui faut rassembler les derniers adeptes de l'école du "Sentier de Fer" qui se sont toujours battus pour le code, le devoir et l'honneur. Cinq guerriers du Jiang hu la rejoignent : Loup silencieux, l'homme auquel elle avait jadis été promise et qu'elle croyait mort, Lame volante, Chan Poing de Tonnerre, Shi Fléchettes d'argent et Ma Tortue. Lorsque les troupes du "Lotus de l'Ouest" pénètrent de nuit dans le palais, Vase de neige libère Wei Fang qui s'empare alors de l'épée légendaire pour la ramener à Hadès Dai. Cependant, agenouillé devant le seigneur Dai, Wei Fang brandit l'épée "Destinée" et tente de le tuer afin de venger la mort de sa mère, la guerrière renégate Han Mei, dont la véritable histoire lui avait été dévoilée par Vase de neige qui fut son élève. En mauvaise posture, Wei Fang est secouru par Loup silencieux, Yu Shu Lien et deux autres guerriers. Au cours d'un duel sanglant, Loup silencieux finit par tuer Hadès Dai. Yu Shu Lien emporte alors l'épée "Destinée", qui suscite tant de convoitises et provoque tant de morts, aux Monts Wudang.

Brigadier-General Bonner Fellers is sent to Japan as a part of the occupation force. He is tasked with arresting Japanese war criminals, including Prime Minister Tojo. Before he departs, he meets his Japanese interpreter, Takahashi. Fellers privately orders him to locate his Japanese girlfriend, Aya Shimada. After managing to arrest Tojo after his attempted suicide, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, General of the Army Douglas MacArthur informs Fellers that Emperor Hirohito can be tried as a war criminal. By doing so, the Allied forces would enrage the Japanese and they would face open revolt; but by deposing the Emperor, the Soviets would enter Japan and spread communism. However, the American people want the Emperor to stand trial for Japan's actions during the war. MacArthur gives Fellers ten days to investigate the Emperor. The next day, Takahashi informs Fellers that Aya's apartment in Tokyo was bombed. Fellers orders him to investigate her hometown, Shizuoka.

In 1989, as a war rages on in the province of Bougainville— then called North Solomons — in Papua New Guinea, Mr. Watts (Hugh Laurie), the only white man left on the island after a blockade, re-opens the local school. He begins reading the Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations, which transfixes a young girl named Matilda (Xzannjah). Billions of years ago, beings called the Guardians of the Universe used the green essence of willpower to create an intergalactic police force called the Green Lantern Corps. They divided the universe into 3600 sectors, with one Green Lantern per sector. One such Green Lantern, Abin Sur of Sector 2814, defeated the malevolent being Parallax and imprisoned him in the Lost Sector on the desolate planet Ryut. In the present day, Parallax escapes from his prison after becoming strengthened by an encounter with crash survivors on the planet, feeding off of their fear to gain strength before pursuing and nearly killing Abin Sur, who escapes and crash-lands on Earth where he commands his ring to find a worthy successor.
