Gualtiero Jacopetti (4 September 1919 – 17 August 2011) was an Italian director of documentary films.

He was born in Barga, in northern Tuscany. With Paolo Cavara and Franco Prosperi is the originator of Mondo films, also called shockumentaries.

Biography

Gualtiero Jacopetti est né à Barga, dans la province de Lucques, dans le nord de la Toscane. Avec Paolo Cavara et Franco Prosperi il est à l'origine des films Mondo, appelés aussi « shockumentaries ».

In Rome it is seeing what happens in the Italian courts during the Fifties. There are all kinds of illegalities committed by the accused, from simple to ladronerie prohibited meetings, the complaints of jealous wives to gross misunderstandings. Judge Lo Russo is known for its inflexibility and severity in the administration of justice, so that on his desk lay a bust of Cicero. He sentinel various people who claim to be innocent but then slowly come to discover their wrongs. Among them is a funny character. Alberto Sordi plays the role of Nando Moriconi, the famous Roman bully who loves America, finished in district court for a misunderstanding, at least according to his statements. In fact, the presence of the Judge Peppino De Filippo, Nando tells of his Saunter with the kids of the suburbs of Rome near the countryside in Ciociaria where he is caught by a policeman while she was bathing. Since wallow in those waters was strictly forbidden, the policeman to give a lesson to Nando, steals all the clothes and leaves him naked. Not knowing where to go, Nando entered the house of a noble countess, who was giving a party with friends.

Candido (Christopher Brown) is a naïve young man raised by a Westphalian baron (Gianfranco D'Angelo). In Macao, the dead are covered in make-up for the funeral. In Singapore there is a hotel for the dying. Cars are smashed at a junkyard of Los Angeles and reduced to cubes. In Czechoslovakia, Yves Klein makes his paintings with the help of some female models and some musicians to express his favorite color, blue. In Honolulu, tourists are showered with leis and witness the Hula Dance. In Nepal, Gurkha soldiers perform a rite of passage by dressing up in women's clothing and bulls are beheaded for ritualistic purposes. In Portugal, there is the running of the bulls and bull fights where matadors challenge the bulls. At Garoka, New Guinea, there are indigenous tribes who go to church. The film concludes with a cargo cult at Port Moresby, New Guinea.
