Biography
Entre 1986 et 1988, Fromm étudie à la Staatliche Fachschule für Optik und Fototechnik à Berlin. Il exerce son métier depuis 1989. En 1999, il commence à enseigner en tant que conférencier à l'Académie allemande du film et de la télévision de Berlin et à l'académie du film du Bade-Wurtemberg.L'œuvre cinématographique de Hans Fromm appartient à l'école berlinoise. East Germany in 1980: Barbara (Nina Hoss) is a chain-smoking physician whom we meet as she is arriving for her first day at a small rural hospital near the Baltic Sea. She had been at the prestigious Charité hospital in East Berlin but, after she'd filed an "Ausreiseantrag" – an official request to leave East Germany – she had been incarcerated and then transferred to this small town where she is still monitored by the Stasi. Twice in the film, we see the Stasi punish Barbara for the hours in which they cannot find her, by searching her house, strip-searching and cavity-searching her.

A former criminal is married to a Turkish immigrant to Germany, Ali Ozkan, who marries a woman named Laura. Ali's wife starts an affair with Thomas, an Afghanistan war veteran from Germany, because she is beaten by her husband. Hans et Clara, qui ont fui le pays depuis longtemps en tant qu'anciens terroristes d'extrême gauche, sont sur le point de quitter le Portugal pour le Brésil, dans l'espoir de tout recommencer.
