Siegfried von Xanten defeats the dragon Fafnir, and becomes invulnerable by bathing in the beast's blood. He then wins a net of invisibility (Tarnkappe) and the legendary Treasure of the Nibelungs (Nibelungenschatz) from the dwarf Alberich. Siegfried falls in love with Kriemhild, sister of King Gunther of Burgund. However, Gunther will not allow Siegfried to marry her until he has helped Gunther to win a wife himself. They travel to Iceland where Siegfried helps Gunther to defeat and win Queen Brunhild. They return to the Burgundian court at Worms and both weddings take place. However, jealousy and envy cause frictions at the court. Intrigues eventually result in Hagen of Tronje killing Siegfried during a hunt. In part 2, Kriemhild marries Etzel, king of the huns, in order to gain revenge for the murder of her husband. The Burgundians, led by Gunther and Hagen, follow an invitation after Kriemhild gives birth to Ortileb, and travel to Etzel's hall, where they are attacked by the huns. Hagen kills Ortileb in the fight. There is a great slaughter and Gunther is killed. Finally Kriemhild kills Hagen and is then killed herself.

Mike Merrick (Audie Murphy) is an American agent who is sent to meet with Professor Schlieben (George Sanders) a German scientist. During the mission it is revealed that the professor is a Neo-Nazi, developing a weaponized rocket that can be used against the Western world. Merrick now must destroy the rocket plans hidden in Schlieben's lab. Things are further complicated when Radical Muslims insist on destroying the rocket themselves and Merrick. La 1 division parachutiste allemande est envoyée à Avignon. Certains soldats se blessent pendant le saut, comme le sous-officier Karl Christiansen. Il était Fähnrich et est rétrogradé pour avoir refusé d'exécuter un soldat ennemi. À l'hôpital, il se met en couple avec l'infirmière Inge qui le soigne. L'Oberleutnant Reiter a aussi des vues sur Inge. Inge et les soldats se séparent quand la division part pour Cassino. Ils doivent repousser l'offensive alliée. La position doit être maintenue aussi longtemps que possible. Toutefois l'abbaye sera épargnée. Les habitants se sont réfugiés ici, Inge, qui est partie elle aussi, leur apporte ses soins. Elle est insultée par Gina. Le père Emmanuel calme les esprits et montre à Inge les chefs-d'œuvre qui ont été mis en protection dans le monastère. Elle le signale au lieutenant-colonel Schlegel qui est consterné. Schlegel doit être rapatrié pour des raisons de santé, cependant il décide de rester sur le front. Il veut sauver les œuvres en les apportant au Vatican.
