This episode in the series should have been called Between Three Women, because there are plot strands involving three, not two, women. Dr. Gillespie's (Lionel Barrymore) assistant, Dr. Red Adams (Van Johnson), is still fending off the romantic advances of beautiful blond socialite and social worker Ruth Edley (Marilyn Maxwell), who finally succeeds in winning Red's heart. The second woman is a pretty night club singer Edna (Gloria DeHaven), who collapses suddenly one night after a show and cannot understand why she is no longer able to eat. Red finds out that a complicated subconscious obsession is the cause. The third woman is Sally (Marie Blake), the reliable and wise-cracking switchboard operator in all of the episodes. Sally is stricken with Bright's Disease and refuses to let anyone besides Red operate on her ailing kidney. Things turn out well for Red and all three women.

The Blue Star of the Nile is stolen from an exhibition guarded by the police under Inspector Farraday. Dr. Julian Blair is engaged in unconventional research on human brain waves when his wife Helen (Shirley Warde) is tragically killed in a freak auto accident. Two Confederate veterans broke and homeless are making their way to Texas to start fresh. After comedic adventures getting into and out of trouble just trying to make enough move to get to Texas, they witness a stagecoach robbery and manage to hold up the outlaws and take back the cash. At that point they have a difference of opinion; the 'good' one Todd Ramsey (Glenn Ford) wants to give it back, the 'bad' one Dan Thomas (William Holden as a fresh 1941 face) wants to keep it and keep going...but goodness wins out, and both are off the hook. The honest one takes a job with the biggest local rancher (who of course has a beautiful and friendly daughter) and the 'bad one stumbles into a different kind of job—with another rancher who specializes in rustling. They both have heads turned by the lovely lady and the battle of good and evil continues in often comedic circumstances...although a showdown looms. The key to the action is the need to get the entire town/valley's cattle past all the rustlers up to the railroad at Abilene. Many twists and turns in this complicated, comedic and top-notch Western with blockbuster ending that cuts back to core of all good westerns...good men tested by difficult circumstances.
