Lucky vit seul à plus de 90 ans, à l'écart d'une petite ville. Il fait de l'exercice, marche tous les jours en ville pour aller prendre son café, faire ses courses et retrouver des amis dans un bar le soir. Malgré sa bonne santé, une chute avertit Lucky que la vieillesse est là. Il perd alors un peu de sa vigueur, se dispute avec un avocat qui tente de faire signer un testament à un ami inconsolable depuis que sa tortue centenaire "President Roosevelt" l'a quitté. Lucky retrouve toutefois une joie de vivre lors d'une fête d'anniversaire, où il chante en espagnol pour le jeune fils d'une commerçante d'origine mexicaine. Lucky rencontre aussi un vétéran avec qui il évoque des souvenirs de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Finalement la vie continue pour Lucky, tandis que la tortue poursuit elle aussi son chemin dans le désert.

The Asgardian Loki encounters the Other, the leader of an extraterrestrial race known as the Chitauri. In exchange for retrieving the Tesseract, a powerful energy source of unknown potential, the Other promises Loki an army with which he can subjugate Earth. Nick Fury, director of the espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D., and his lieutenant Agent Maria Hill arrive at a remote research facility during an evacuation, where physicist Dr. Erik Selvig is leading a research team experimenting on the Tesseract. Agent Phil Coulson explains that the object has begun radiating an unusual form of energy. The Tesseract suddenly activates and opens a wormhole, allowing Loki to reach Earth. Loki takes the Tesseract and uses his scepter to enslave Selvig and a couple of agents, including Clint Barton, to aid him in his getaway.

Marty Faranan (Farrell) is a struggling writer in Los Angeles, California who dreams of finishing his screenplay, Seven Psychopaths. The movie centers on Carlton Garrett (Justin Timberlake), the adult son of baseball legend Kyle Garrett (Jeff Bridges) and a minor-league baseball player with the Corpus Christi, Texas Hooks. The film opens to the sound of a gramophone playing Axxon N, "the longest-running radio play in history". Molly (Kate Hudson) and Carl (Matt Dillon) are preparing for their wedding day in Hawaii, until Carl's friend Neil (Seth Rogen) interrupts to say that Randolph Dupree (Owen Wilson) got lost. They drive off together to pick up Dupree, who appeared to have hitched a ride with a light plane after landing on the wrong island. A day before the wedding, Molly's father (Michael Douglas), who is also CEO of the company that Carl works for, makes a toast with humorous remarks at Carl's expense, foreshadowing a conflict between the two. Later at a pre-celebration at a bar, Carl neglects Dupree to be with Molly. Carl and Dupree later make up on the beach, as Dupree apologizes for laughing at Molly's father's jokes. In 1995, Ray Santilli, along with his friend Gary Shoefield, go to America to find Elvis memorabilia to sell on the market stall Ray runs in London. Harvey, a former US Army cameraman, sells them a silent black and white film of Elvis performing live, but later returns with an intriguing offer. Harvey takes Ray to Miami, Florida to see a film from 1947 showing the autopsy of an alien supposedly killed in a UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico. Harvey wants $30,000 for the film. Gary and Ray return to England to look for an investor to give them the money.
