Henry Edwards (18 September 1882 – 2 November 1952) was an English actor and film director. He appeared in 81 films between 1915 and 1952. He also directed 67 films between 1915 and 1937. Edwards was married to actress Chrissie White, who co-starred in a number of his films.

He was born in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset and died in Chobham, Surrey.

Biography

Henry Edwards monte la première fois sur les planches en province vers 1900, puis rejoint les théâtres du West End de Londres en 1911. En 1913, il se retrouve à jouer face à Ethel Barrymore à New York.

Il obtient son premier rôle au cinéma en 1914 dans le court-métrage Clancarty de Harold M. Shaw. Les réalisateurs américains Laurence Trimble et Cecil Hepworth font rapidement appel à lui en tant qu'acteur et scénariste. En 1915, il réalise son premier film A Welsh Singer adapté d'un roman de Allen Raine.

En 1928, il devient co-directeur des Twickenham Film Studios avec Leslie S. Hiscott et Julius Hagen.

The protagonist, Davidson (John Mills), visits the boat of Captain Driver to ask permission to marry his daughter Fay. Aboard, he finds himself involved in a fight over the criminal activities of Boyd, a people trafficker with whom the Drivers are associated. The boat catches fire, and subsequent investigation finds aboard a charred corpse, Boyd having gone missing. The corpse is actually a client Boyd killed, but to cover up their involvement, the Drivers and another associate, Tim Pewsey, perjure themselves by claiming there was no other man present. This leads to the identification of the corpse as Boyd and to Davidson's conviction for his murder. He spends 12 years in prison.

A major international financier is found dead at his Hampshire home. The Record newspaper assigns its leading investigative reporter, Phillip Trent, to the case. In spite of the police cordon, he manages to gain entry to the house by posing as a relative. While there he manages to pick up some of the background to the case from Inspector Murch, the Irish detective leading the investigation. Despite Murch's suggestion that the death is suicide, Trent quickly becomes convinced that it was in fact murder.
