Gretchen Lederer (23 May 1891 – 20 December 1955) was a German actress of the silent era. She appeared in 87 films between 1912 and 1918. She was born in Cologne, Germany and died in Anaheim, California. She was married to actor Otto Lederer.

Kaiser Wilhelm II of Hohenzollern (Rupert Julian) is a vain and arrogant tyrant eager for conquest. When Belgium is invaded by the German army during World War I, Marcas, the blacksmith (Elmo Lincoln), although wounded, is able to save his daughter from the clutches of a German soldier. Soon after this, the RMS Lusitania is sunk by Captain von Neigle (Nigel De Brulier), who ultimately is driven mad with remorse. After the United States declares war, the Allied generals turn the Kaiser over to Albert I of Belgium. Incarcerated, the Kaiser faces his jailer, Marcas the blacksmith.

Based upon a review in a film magazine, Gretchen (Lederer) has reclaimed husband Dale Barker (Mestayer) from a drinking habit, and he has become a lawyer working with the Department of Justice in hunting down German propagandists. Before their marriage, Gretchen had been involved with propagandists and cannot now extricate herself, and she fears discovery by her husband. She is jealous of Sylvia Hamilton (Swanson), Dale's stenographer, and plans on bringing her under suspicion. When arrested as a spy, Sylvia turns over a mass of evidence, some of which incriminates Gretchen, placing Dale between love of country and loyalty to his wife.

Mme Clare Demarest, une riche Bostonienne, n'a pas réagi quand son fils Robert a épousé une danseuse contre son gré. Mme Demarest dépêche Basil Demarest, un parent éloigné, pour vérifier si la société parisienne à la mode a irrémédiablement changé Lianne. Basil découvre une jeune femme capricieuse et superficielle, incapable de choisir entre le Baron Strensky et Emile Carre. Strensky provoque Carre en duel et blesse son adversaire, forçant Carre à abandonner ses prétentions sur Liane. Basil supplie Lianne de l'accompagner en Amérique, mais elle refuse. L'après-midi avant son départ, Basil et Lianne dînent dans un restaurant lorsque Strensky, avec qui Lianne est maintenant fiancée, entre dans la salle avec Mlle Sari. Basile confronte Strensky à son infidélité, et le Baron le provoque en duel, mais Lianne intervient en prétendant que Strensky est celui qu'elle aime. Découragé, Basil prend le paquebot pour Boston. En plein océan, il est agréablement surpris de découvrir que Lianne, ayant changé d'avis, est du voyage, et qu'il est son "Prince Amour".
