Isabelle Yasmina Adjani (born 27 June 1955) is a French film actress and singer. A five-time winner of the César Award for Best Actress, she won for Possession (1981), One Deadly Summer (1983) Camille Claudel (1988), La Reine Margot (1994) and Skirt Day (2009). She was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in 2010, and a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2014.

After success in the Comédie-Française, Adjani's lauded performance as Adele Hugo in the 1975 film The Story of Adele H., earned her the first of two nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Her second nomination for Camille Claudel, made her the first French actress to receive two nominations. She also won Best Actress at the 1981 Cannes Film Festival for Possession and Quartet, and the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 1989 Berlin Film Festival for Camille Claudel. Her other films include The Tenant (1976), Nosferatu the Vampire (1979), Subway (1985), Diabolique (1996) and French Women (2014).

Biography

In 1979, she had a son, Barnabe Nuytten, with the cinematographer Bruno Nuytten, whom she later persuaded to direct her in Camille Claudel. From 1989 to 1995, she had a relationship with Daniel Day Lewis, who left before the birth of their son, Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis, in 1995. Day-Lewis, who goes by the name of Gabe Day as of 2013, is an aspiring hip-hop artist.

Adjani was later engaged to the composer Jean Michel Jarre; they broke up in 2004.

Long ago, a drop of sunlight became a golden flower capable of healing illness, decay and injury. For hundreds of years the flower is used by Mother Gothel to retain her youth until it is discovered by soldiers of a nearby kingdom. They use the flower to heal their ailing queen, who soon after gives birth to Princess Rapunzel. Gothel discovers that Rapunzel's hair has the flower's healing properties but that attempting to take just the hair by cutting it destroys its power, so she kidnaps Rapunzel and raises her as her own daughter in an isolated tower. Once a year, the King and Queen release sky lanterns on Rapunzel's birthday, hoping for their daughter's return.

The film begins in a working-class neighborhood in the Paris of the 1960s. The main character, Moїse Schmidt (Momo), is a young Jewish boy growing up without a mother and with a father afflicted by crippling depression. Momo is fascinated by the elderly Turkish Muslim man, Ibrahim Demirci ([demiɾˈdʒi]), who runs a grocery store across the street from his apartment (where Momo often shoplifts). Their relationship develops and soon Momo feels closer to Ibrahim than to his father. Ibrahim affectionately calls Moїse Momo, and adopts him when his father leaves and commits suicide. Momo and Ibrahim go on a journey to Turkey, Ibrahim's homeland, in their new car (a Simca Aronde Océane) where Momo learns about Ibrahim's culture. Before they can have an big advanture, Ibrahim is killed in a car crash and Momo returns to Paris to take over the shop.
