Biography
Ivano Marescotti a travaillé au département de l'urbanisme du conseil municipal de Ravenne avant de commencer sa carrière d'acteur à l'âge de 35 ans dans des pièces de théâtre. Il se fait connaître au cinéma avec son second rôle dans le film L'aria serena dell'ovest (1990) et multiplie dès lors les seconds rôles, devenant l'un des acteurs de genre italiens les plus prolifiques des années 1990 et 2000. À partir de la fin des années 1990, il apparaît dans des productions internationales comme Le Talentueux Mr Ripley (1999), Hannibal (2001) et Le Roi Arthur (2004). Il est nommé au Ruban d'argent du meilleur acteur dans un second rôle à trois reprises : en 1993 pour Quattro figli unici , en 2000 pour Le Talentueux Mr Ripley, et en 2001 pour La lingua del santo et Un delitto impossibile.En 2007, il fait partie des fondateurs du parti démocrate mais le quitte l'année suivante, dégoûté par l'orientation prise par le parti. Checco, a man who works as a bouncer at a nightclub in Brianza, dreams of becoming a carabiniere like his uncle Joseph Capobianco, however, he is rejected by Colonel Gismondo Mazzini after his third interview in one year. By the recommendation of the Archbishop of Milan, Checco manages to become a security officer at Milan Cathedral. While working at the cathedral he meets Farah, and Arab woman pretending to be an architecture student in order to gain access to the Madonnina. Farah, with the help of her brother and two other accomplices, plans to place an explosive device at the feet of the Madonnina to avenge the killing of her family in an unspecified bombing. Checco takes Farah to a dilapidated trullo, which he inherited from his grandfather in Alberobello. Checco wants the trullo to be demolished, however, it would cost €10,000. As the two spend time together, Checco falls in love with Farah.

The movie starts off with Mussolini arriving in a small town in 1901 and getting a job as a school teacher; he is subsequently fired for having sex with the headmaster's daughter. This would be a common theme throughout the movie. After giving up on teaching, he works as a builder on the new University of Geneva campus building, and where a lover persuades him to become a student. This is also where he organizes his first protest after the death of a worker he knew. For this, he is nearly deported but is saved by Angelica's intervention. After getting run out of then-Austro-Hungarian Trieste, he goes back to his hometown of Forlì, where he marries Rachele. Soon he is at the forefront of the Socialist movement when he becomes the editor-in-chief of Avanti!. At this point Mussolini unites the "reds," the Socialists, with the "yellows," the Republicans in an anti-war movement. This marks the peak of his power, with the Italian left-wing politics under his control. However, he gradually loses his anti-war fervor and splits from the Socialist party altogether, turning all his allies into enemies.
