Jack Hobbs (1893–1968) was a British stage and film actor who appeared in more than forty films. After making his debut in the 1915 silent The Yoke Hobbs appeared in a mixture of leading and supporting roles in both the silent and sound eras. He played the hero in several quota quickies of the 1930s, including All That Glitters (1936). He was cast as a smooth-talking villain in two George Formby films No Limit (1935) and It's in the Air (1938)

At the start of the Second World War, musician George Hepplewhite (George Formby) gets on a boat thinking he is on his way to Blackpool, but arrives in Bergen, Norway instead, where he is mistaken for another ukulele player. He then meets the desk girl at the hotel, Mary Wilson (Phyllis Calvert), who is a British undercover agent and thinks he is one too. The duo manage to find and break a code that the Nazis are using to sink Allied shipping. A noted sequence was a dream where George had been given a truth drug by the Nazi conductor Mendez, in which he gives Hitler a right hook.

George Shuttleworth (Formby) is a chimney sweep from Wigan who dreams of winning the Isle of Man TT. Unfortunately, George's attempts to secure a factory ride with the Rainbow Motorcycle Company are unsuccessful and consequently he resorts to entering his own machine the "Shuttleworth Snap", a motorcycle derived from an old Rainbow machine. Whilst running the engine of his machine, George inadvertently knocks the motorcycle off its stand and crashes into the fence of his next door neighbour (Mr Hardache), who goads George about his dream of winning the T.T.
