Jaroslav Kučera, né à Prague le 6 août 1929 et mort dans cette ville le 14 janvier 1991 (à 61 ans), est un directeur de la photographie et acteur tchécoslovaque.

Biography

Jaroslav Kučera étudie à la FAMU de 1948 à 1952 et en sort diplômé en 1952. Il filme plusieurs films documentaires, puis est engagé comme directeur de la photographie en 1957 aux Studios Barrandov à Prague auprès desquels il travaille jusqu'en 1985. Il filme encore quelques films, téléfilms et séries télévisées.

En tant que directeur de la photographie, Jaroslav Kučera est principalement connu pour Les Petites Marguerites (Sedmikrásky) (1966), Adela Jeste nevecerela (1978) et Les Diamants de la nuit (1964).

Il était marié à la réalisatrice Věra Chytilová avec qui il a un fils, Štěpán , lui aussi directeur de la photographie.

It is the turn from the nineteenth to the twentieth century. The Prague police commissar Ledvina asked the famous New York detective Nick Carter, who is on a visit to Prague, for assistance to solve the strange case of a missing dog. Mysterious murder cases happenen during the investigations, done by the malicious botanist Baron von Kratzmar and his carnivorous plant Adele. Von Kratzmar kidnapped his victims, bound them and whenever he played a gramophone with the melody "Schlafe, mein Prinzchen" (a lullaby by Bernhard Flies but previously associated with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) it is the time for Adele to awaken and eat her victims for dinner. Baron von Kratzmar considered himself a misjudged genius and wanted to take revenge on one of his former professors. He called himself "the Gardener" a notorious criminal, who Nick Carter thought had died in the swamps years ago. With the help of bizarre inventions, Ledvina and Carter succeed in catching von Kratzmar and delivering him to the legal authorities.

La lecture d'un testament : un homme lègue toute sa fortune à sa fille Klára, au détriment de son autre fille Viktoria. Viktoria tient un établissement nommé « la Flûte verte », et voit sa sœur attirer les hommes, contrairement à elle. Vitoria décide alors de tuer Klára, en se procurant un poison indécelable qui la rendra malade et la tuera au bout de quelques semaines. Diamonds of the Night begins with two young men fleeing from a train taking them to a concentration camp. The film employs little dialog and the boys escape through rugged and unfamiliar terrain is interpolated with dreams, memories, hallucinations, fantasies, and flashbacks. They encounter a woman on a farm and one boy struggles with thoughts of murder and rape before silently taking a loaf of bread from the woman's kitchen and leaving. Eventually, the boys are caught by members of a local shooting party. The men prepare to execute the boys, but simply laugh as they walk away instead of executing them. The ending is ambiguous: The men either actually spared the boys, or they could be walking into the afterlife.
