Jessica "Jessie" Cave (born 5 May 1987) is an English actress, comedian and cartoonist who is best known for her role as Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter film series. She has also published a book of cartoons and releases comedy sketches online.

Biography

Cave was born 5 May 1987 in London, the second eldest of four siblings. Her father works as a general practitioner. Her grandfather was Chief Secretary of Hong Kong, Tasmanian-born Sir Charles Philip Haddon-Cave. Her younger sister Bebe is also an actor.

Cave attended Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith for sixth form. A former county-level swimmer and ex-national tennis player, she studied illustration and animation at Kingston University. Her tennis career was cut short by injury when she was 15. She had originally intended to study stage management at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and worked in London as a stagehand, before deciding to pursue acting.

In December 2014, Cave and her boyfriend, Alfie Brown, son of Steve Brown and Jan Ravens, saw the birth of their son, Donnie. The couple's relationship inspired Cave's 2015 Edinburgh Festival Fringe comedy hit I Loved Her.

Based on a true story, the film depicts a group of lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the British miners' strike in 1984, at the outset of what would become the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners campaign. The National Union of Mineworkers was reluctant to accept the group's support due to the union's public relations' worries about being openly associated with a gay group, so the activists instead decided to take their donations directly to Onllwyn, a small mining village in Wales, resulting in an alliance between the two communities. The alliance was unlike any seen before and was ultimately successful.
