Joan Taylor (August 18, 1929 – March 4, 2012) was an American television and film actress.

Biography

Taylor was born Rose Marie Emma in Geneva, Illinois. Her father Joseph Emma was from Sicily and became the manager of the Deerpath movie theatre in Lake Forest, Illinois where Joan was brought up and a Hollywood prop man. Her mother Amelia Berky was from Austria and became a vaudeville dancer/singer.

Taylor married Leonard Freeman, later the creator of Hawaii Five-O, in 1953. The couple had three daughters. After her contract for The Rifleman ran out, she retired from acting to raise her children. When Freeman died in January 1974 following heart surgery, Taylor started managing Leonard Freeman Productions and the business of Hawaii Five-O under the name Rose Freeman. She went to at least one Hawaii Five-O convention to talk to fans.

With her children older, she found herself writing, including co-author credit for the comedy Fools Rush In starring Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek.

Taylor married TV producer-director Walter Grauman in 1976; the couple divorced in 1980.

Alex Whitman (Matthew Perry) is an architect from New York City who is sent to Las Vegas to supervise the construction of a nightclub that his firm has been hired to build. Alex is a strait-laced WASP-ish type who, while enjoying a night on the town, meets Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek), a free-spirited Mexican-American photographer. Alex and Isabel are overtaken by lust at first sight and end up spending the night together; however, their immediate attraction doesn't last in the cold light of day, and they don't see each other for another three months. When they do meet again, it's because Isabel has some interesting news for Alex: She's pregnant with his child. Alex and Isabel decide that they should do the right thing and quickly get married (with an Elvis impersonator serving as witness), but after Isabel meets Alex's mom (Jill Clayburgh) and Alex is confronted by Isabel's father (Tomas Milian), both start to wonder if "doing the right thing" was just that, especially as Alex tries to balance his career in New York with Isabel's desire to continue working in Nevada.
