John Braden (April 18, 1949 – May 22, 2004) was a writer, producer, and director of motion pictures and television programs, as well as a public advocate against drugs in the movie industry.

Educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he was drafted and served in the Vietnam War. Known best for his work on shows including Magnum, P.I., The A-Team, Knight Rider, Dukes of Hazzard, and The Fall Guy, he also supplied the voice for Senator Alfred Woden in the videogame series Max Payne, he often worked with producer Harry Thomason.

After marriage, he moved to Lewisville, Texas, and later to Killeen, where he started several companies to serve local military families. Braden died from pneumonia in Pilot Point, Texas.

Lincoln Hawk is a struggling trucker who arm wrestles on the side to make extra cash while trying to rebuild his life. Hawk's estranged wife Christina, who is very ill, asks that Hawk pick up their son Michael from military school so that the two of them can get to know each other; Hawk had left them ten years earlier. Michael's controlling grandfather Jason Cutler, a wealthy man who hates Hawk and disapproved of his daughter's relationship with him, believes that Hawk has no right to be in his grandson's life. Michael is very distrusting and bitter towards Hawk initially and treats him with contempt at every turn.
