John Longden is a Actor and Scriptwriter British born on 11 november 1900
John Longden (11 November 1900 – 26 May 1971) was a West Indian-born English film actor. He appeared in 84 films between 1926 and 1964, including five films directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
About this time Longden began to appear in silent films. He signed contract with Gaumont British Pictures to write and act, earning a notable success with Alfred Hitchcock's Blackmail (1929).
Australian interlude
Longden went out to Australia in 1933 to perform in several plays. While there he appeared in the film The Silence of Dean Maitland (1934) for Cinesound Productions.
The performance was so well received Longden made two more films for the same company, Thoroughbred (1936) and It Isn't Done (1937).
In 1934 it was announced that he was going to play the lead in an adaptation of Robbery Under Arms, but this film was never made. The same year Longden also announced he was going to act in and direct an Australian film called Highway Romance, about an English man and Australian girl travelling from Sydney to Brisbane. A company called Highway Productions was formed with a capital of £10,000 but no film resulted.
Later career
Longden returned to Britain where he continued to work steadily in theatre and film. He appeared on several episodes of season one of The Adventures of Robin Hood playing various characters, and returned for one episode in season three. He died in London, 26 May 1971.

Biography
Longden was born in the West Indies, being the son of a Wesleyan missionary, and was educated at Kingswood School, Bath, Somerset. Originally intending to be a mining engineer, he worked for two years in a coal mine in Yorkshire, where he started acting in amateur theatrical companies. An introduction to Seymour Hicks saw him start acting on the legitimate stage, beginning with a walk-on park in Old Bill, MP. He played in My Old Dutch with Albert Chevalier, then spent time with the Liverpool and Birmingham repertory theatres. He also appeared in The Farmer's Wife, produced by Barry Jackson at the Court Theatre in London for two years.About this time Longden began to appear in silent films. Joe Newman returns to his small hometown in Bavaria, after living in England since the outbreak of World War II. He seeks information of what has become of his father. He finds out that his father is dead, but that he escaped from behind the Iron Curtain and went to live with a certain Dr. von Brecht, and that he later married a woman named Lisa. Everywhere Joe turns to find answers people, including Police Inspector Hofmeister and insurance agent Brenner, are reluctant to talk and give more details concerning the circumstances surrounding his father, and Joe begins to suspect that this is a cover-up and that the people want to keep certain facts regarding his father a secret. Joe breaks into von Brecht's home and finds an old man in the attic. He is knocked unconscious before he can learn the old man's identity. When he regains consciousness, Joe sees the old man being driven away by von Brecht, Brenner, and Lisa. Joe tracks them to a railway station and discovers that the man is a renowned scientist who was forced to switch places with his father just before the father's death. Following a battle with Brenner, Joe rescues the scientist from being abducted to the East and helps him escape the country.

As Prof. Bernard Quatermass (Brian Donlevy) struggles to gain government support for his Moon colonisation project, his interest becomes focused on reports of hundreds of meteorites landing in Winnerden Flats. Travelling there with Marsh, his colleague (Bryan Forbes), Quatermass finds a huge complex under construction, based on his lunar colony plans. Marsh discovers that an undamaged meteorite is shaped like a small stone rocket. It then cracks open, releasing a gas, leaving him with an odd V-shaped mark on his face. Black-clad guards from the complex arrive, armed with machine guns and sporting similar V-shaped marks, and take Marsh away, knocking down Quatermass and ordering him away.

The 1087 is a British Royal Navy motor gun boat that faithfully sees its crew through the worst that World War II can throw at them. After the end of the war, George Hoskins (Richard Attenborough) convinces former skipper Bill Randall (George Baker) and Birdie (Bill Owen) to buy their beloved boat and use it for some harmless, minor smuggling of black market items like wine. But they find themselves transporting ever more sinister cargoes; counterfeit currency and weapons. Mark Sherwin (Ayres) is driving in the country when he notices a man lying at the side of the road. Assuming the man is the victim of a hit-and-run, he stops to offer assistance, only to be coshed and left stunned while his wallet and car are stolen. On recovering his senses, he staggers towards a nearby farmhouse where he collapses. He is found by the farm owner, who summons a doctor. Meanwhile the car thief comes to grief while speeding round a corner on a clifftop road, the car plunges over the edge and explodes in flames.
