John Dixon Paragon (born December 9, 1954) is an American actor, writer, and director.

He was born in Anchorage, Alaska, on an Army base. He grew up and attended schools in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Paragon played Jambi the Genie and voiced Pterri the Pterodactyl on children's show Pee-wee's Playhouse. In addition to writing many of the regular season episodes of Playhouse, Paragon also co-wrote (with Paul Reubens) the Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special in 1988, for which they were nominated an Emmy Award for Best Writing in a Children's Special.

Some of Paragon's other roles include Cedric, one half of the gay couple Bob and Cedric on the television series Seinfeld; the title character in the children's movie The Frog Prince; the sex shop salesman in Eating Raoul; and the owner of a Strip-o-gram business in the 1986 film Echo Park.

Paragon got his start in the Los Angeles-based improvisation group The Groundlings alongside Reubens and Phil Hartman. He also collaborated with fellow Groundling Cassandra Peterson on numerous Elvira projects, including the recurring role of The Breather, an annoying caller, for her first television series on KHJ-TV-Los Angeles.

In recent years, Paragon has worked with Walt Disney Imagineering on ways to incorporate improvisational performance into attractions at Disney parks. In this capacity, he performed as the keeper of Lucky the Dinosaur during the test runs of the animatronic figure.

Paragon returned to his performance as Jambi the Genie in the Broadway outing of the Pee-wee Herman stage show that began performances October 26, 2010 at the Stephen Sondheim Theater.

Rick Kane, approximately 18 years of age at the start of the film having just graduated high school, uses his winnings from a wave tank surfing contest in his native state of Arizona to fly to Hawaii the summer before the start of college to try and become a professional surfer. He takes a plane to Honolulu with plans to stay with a surfer that he met in Arizona six months previous. He finds the friend tending bar at a seedy gentlemen's club. At the bar he meets up with two pro surfers, Alex and Mark (Mark Occilupo), and stays with them at the house of Lance Burkhart. In the morning, he goes out surfing with Alex and Mark and realizes that surfing in the ocean is totally different to surfing in a wave tank and he is not as good as he had initially thought. During this scene he gets in the way of Vince, leader of the local group of the "The Hui" (wave slider club) and (real surfing legend Gerry Lopez), which causes Vince to wipe out and leads to a confrontation where he is chased off the beach after he realizes his stuff was stolen from the beach by a member of "The Hui". With nowhere to go, he fortuitously runs into Turtle (John Philbin). Kane meets and falls in love with Kiani (Nia Peeples), a beautiful local girl, coincidentally the cousin of Vince, who helps him acclimate to the local culture and customs. Turtle introduces him to Chandler (Gregory Harrison), a shaper and soul surfer, who teaches Rick about soul surfing and Rick masters the art of appreciating and riding the waves. Rick is a talented graphic artist who helps Chandler design a more contemporary logo for his surfboards. The film's antagonist is Lance Burkhart (Laird Hamilton), a famous, top-ranked surfer whose competitive and materialistic values conflict with the spiritual teachings of Chandler ("You still have a single-fin-mentality"). The film climaxes with a surf contest on Banzai Pipeline as Rick ends up competing against Lance in a duel of skills and beliefs.

Pee-wee Herman is a puer aeternus with a pimped-out bicycle that he treasures and that his neighbor, Francis Buxton, covets. A bike shop employee, Dottie, has a crush on Pee-wee, but he does not reciprocate it. Pee-wee's bike gets stolen while at the mall. He confronts Francis, who has an air-tight alibi. Pee-wee then offers a $10,000 reward for his bike. Francis, who did indeed pay to have someone steal the bike, is frightened by Pee-wee's relentlessness and then pays to have it sent away. After holding a meeting, Pee Wee angrily shouts Dottie down while she is giving suggestions to him and refused to admit he needed help from Dottie while telling her off. Now mad, Pee Wee gives Dottie a furious "I DON'T NEED ANYBODY!" Desperate, Pee-wee visits a psychic, Madam Ruby, who lies to him, claiming that the bike is in the basement of the Alamo. Pee-wee hitchhikes to Texas, getting rides from a fugitive, Mickey, and from a ghostly trucker, Large Marge.
