Jordan Barker is the Canadian-American director of The Marsh, a 2006 film starring Forrest Whitaker and Gabrielle Anwar, as well as My Brother's Keeper, a 2004 film starring Christian Potenza. Sarah (Katharine Isabelle) and Cory (Robin Dunne) have decided to go on vacation, taking Cory's young son Liam with them. They're hoping that the vacation will help ease some of the issues that Liam has with Sarah, as he resents that his widowed father remarried. Shortly after graduating from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, Geralyn Lucas lands her dream job working for 20/20. Lucas is then diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 27 and has a dilemma - whether to have a lumpectomy or the potentially safer mastectomy. After consulting several doctors (including her husband) and researching the operations she decides to undergo a mastectomy. Her subsequent chemotherapy treatment leads to tensions within her marriage but the couple stays together. She also has breast reconstruction. The final shot is of Geralyn cradling her child, something she feared she would be unable to do. Geralyn meets several "angels" in the story, people who have been in similar positions to her and are able to dispense good advice.

Successful children's author Claire Holloway (Gabrielle Anwar) is troubled by nightmares, for which she is seeing a psychiatrist. While working out, watching television, she sees landscape of the Rose Marsh Farm in the Westmoreland County; and she notes that the farmhouse is linked to her nightmares.
