Katherine Warren (July 12, 1905 – July 17, 1965) was an American film and television actress. She appeared in over 30 films and dozens of television programs including the TV series Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Bonanza(1960-1973) and the films Jailhouse Rock (1957), The Glenn Miller Story (1954), All the King's Men (1949), and The Caine Mutiny (1954).

Katherine Warren entame sa carrière au théâtre et joue notamment à Broadway (New York), où elle débute en 1930 dans une pièce adaptée du roman d'Ernest Hemingway L'Adieu aux armes, avec Glenn Anders et Elissa Landi. Construction worker Vince Everett (Elvis) accidentally kills a drunken and belligerent man in a barroom brawl. He is sentenced to between one and ten years in the state penitentiary for manslaughter. His new cellmate, washed-up country singer Hunk Houghton (Shaughnessy), starts teaching Vince to play the guitar after hearing Vince sing and strum Hunk's guitar. Hunk then convinces Vince to participate in an upcoming inmate show, which is broadcast on nationwide television. Vince receives numerous fan letters as a result; but out of apparent jealousy, Hunk ensures they are not delivered to Vince. Hunk then convinces Vince to sign a "contract" to become equal partners in his act. Meanwhile, during an inmate riot in the mess hall, a guard shoves Vince, who retaliates by striking the guard. As a result, the warden orders Vince to be lashed with a whip. Afterwards, it was discovered that Hunk attempted to bribe the guards to drop the punishment, but to no avail.

Callow, rich Ensign Willis Seward Keith (Robert Francis), reports for his first assignment aboard the Caine, which is homeported in Pearl Harbor. "Willie", as he is known by his fellow officers, is disappointed to find that the Caine is a small, battle-scarred destroyer-minesweeper. Its gruff captain, Lieutenant Commander William H. DeVriess (Tom Tully), has almost completely given up on discipline, and the crew has become slovenly and superficially undisciplined, although their performance is excellent. Keith has already met the executive officer, Lieutenant Stephen Maryk (Van Johnson), and is introduced to the communications officer, Lieutenant Thomas Keefer (Fred MacMurray), a novelist in civilian life. Keith has an opportunity to transfer from the ship to a more glamorous billet as an Admiral's aide, but decides to stay aboard. However, Keith remains frustrated with the ship's lack of discipline, despite his own shortcomings.
