Katherine Warren (July 12, 1905 – July 17, 1965) was an American film and television actress. She appeared in over 30 films and dozens of television programs including the TV series Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Bonanza(1960-1973) and the films Jailhouse Rock (1957), The Glenn Miller Story (1954), All the King's Men (1949), and The Caine Mutiny (1954).

Biography

Katherine Warren entame sa carrière au théâtre et joue notamment à Broadway (New York), où elle débute en 1930 dans une pièce adaptée du roman d'Ernest Hemingway L'Adieu aux armes, avec Glenn Anders et Elissa Landi. Sa troisième pièce à Broadway est Cyrano de Bergerac d'Edmond Rostand (1932-1933, avec Walter Hampden dans le rôle-titre et Joe De Santis), où elle personnifie Roxane, rôle qu'elle reprend en 1936 ; la huitième et dernière en 1940 est Roméo et Juliette de William Shakespeare, avec Laurence Olivier et Vivien Leigh dans les rôles-titre.

Au cinéma, elle contribue à quarante films américains (dont quelques westerns), depuis Les Fous du roi de Robert Rossen (1949, avec Broderick Crawford et John Ireland) jusqu'à I'll Give My Life de William F. Claxton (1960, avec Ray Collins et Angie Dickinson). Entretemps, citons Le Rôdeur de Joseph Losey (1951, avec Van Heflin et Evelyn Keyes), Romance inachevée d'Anthony Mann (1954, avec James Stewart et June Allyson) et Le Rock du bagne de Richard Thorpe (1957, avec Elvis Presley et Judy Tyler).

Construction worker Vince Everett (Elvis) accidentally kills a drunken and belligerent man in a barroom brawl. He is sentenced to between one and ten years in the state penitentiary for manslaughter. His new cellmate, washed-up country singer Hunk Houghton (Shaughnessy), starts teaching Vince to play the guitar after hearing Vince sing and strum Hunk's guitar. Hunk then convinces Vince to participate in an upcoming inmate show, which is broadcast on nationwide television. Vince receives numerous fan letters as a result; but out of apparent jealousy, Hunk ensures they are not delivered to Vince. Hunk then convinces Vince to sign a "contract" to become equal partners in his act. Meanwhile, during an inmate riot in the mess hall, a guard shoves Vince, who retaliates by striking the guard. As a result, the warden orders Vince to be lashed with a whip. Afterwards, it was discovered that Hunk attempted to bribe the guards to drop the punishment, but to no avail.

Callow, rich Ensign Willis Seward Keith (Robert Francis), reports for his first assignment aboard the Caine, which is homeported in Pearl Harbor.
