Katrina Kaif ([kəˈʈriːnaː ˈkɛːf], born Katrina Turquotte; 16 July 1983) is a British-Indian film actress and model. Primarily known for her work in Bollywood films, Kaif has also appeared in Telugu and Malayalam films. In addition to being one of Bollywood's highest-paid actresses, she is known as one of India's most attractive celebrities by the media.

Born in British Hong Kong, Kaif and her family lived in several countries before she moved to India. She received her first modelling assignment as a teenager and later pursued a career as a fashion model. At a fashion show in London, filmmaker Kaizad Gustad spotted Kaif and decided to cast her in Boom (2003), a critical and commercial failure. While filming in India, Kaif received modelling assignments and established a successful modelling career. However, filmmakers were hesitant to cast her due to her poor command of Hindi. After appearing in the Telugu film, Malliswari (2004), Kaif earned commercial success in Bollywood with the romantic comedies Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005) and Namastey London (2007). She followed with a series of box-office hits, but was criticised for her acting, repetitive roles and inclination to male-dominated films.

Kaif's performance in the 2009 terrorism drama New York was better received, earning her a Filmfare Award for Best Actress nomination. After roles in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009), Raajneeti (2010) and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), she received her second Filmfare nomination for her performance in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011). Kaif featured in the thrillers Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Dhoom 3 (2013), both of which rank among the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics for her acting prowess, she has established herself as a commercially successful actress of Hindi cinema.

In addition to acting, Kaif is involved with her mother's charity and participates in stage shows. She is guarded about her personal life, which is a subject of media scrutiny. Her background has also been a topic of discussion, with some sources accusing her of fabricating her history.

Katrina Kaif, née Katrina Turquotte le 16 juillet 1983 grandit à Hawaii puis en Grande-Bretagne, pays d'origine de sa mère. Elle devient top-model à Hawaii pour une marque de bijoux alors qu'elle a à peine 14 ans. Elle ne poursuit aucune étude afin de devenir mannequin professionnel.

En 2003, elle arrive en Inde pour tourner dans Boom . Elle rencontre Salman Khan qui lui propose un rôle dans la comédie romantique Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, puis elle enchaîne avec Sarkar qui sont tous deux de grand succès.

Tout d'abord les cinéastes hésitent à l'engager à cause de son lourd accent en hindi, c'est pourquoi elle est fréquemment doublée dans ses premiers films. Entre 2006 et 2008 elle tourne six grands succès coup sur coup : Namastey London, Apne , Partner , Welcome , Singh Is Kinng et Race tandis que Hello et Yuvvraaj sont des échecs. Puis en 2009, elle obtient sa première reconnaissance critique dans New York avec John Abraham et Neil Nitin Mukesh avec lesquels elle partage l'affiche. Elle joue ensuite dans deux grands succès commerciaux, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani avec Ranbir Kapoor et De Dana Dan avec Akshay Kumar.

En 2010, sort Raajneeti, film sur les dessous du monde de la politique qui reprend la trame du Mahabharata, réalisé par Prakash Jha. Sa prestation est appréciée des critiques et le film connait un vif succès populaire. Cette même année, elle tourne de nouveau aux côtés d'Akshay Kumar dans Tees Maar Khan réalisé par Farah Khan.

En 2011 elle tourne deux films : une réalisation de Zoya Akhtar, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, aux côtés de Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin et Naseeruddin Shah et Mere Brother Ki Dulhan réalisé par le débutant Ali Abbas Zafar face à Imran Khan.

En août 2012, sort Ek Tha Tiger, film où elle joue aux côtés de Salman Khan et qui fait des records d'entrées au box-office. Le premier film qu'elle tourne aux côtés de Shah Rukh Khan, Jab Tak Hai Jaan dernière réalisation de Yash Chopra, sort en novembre 2012. S'il recueille dans l'ensemble des critiques positives, l'interprétation de Katrina Kaif est diversement appréciée.

En 2013 et 2014, elle est de nouveau à l'affiche de deux gros succès populaires : Dhoom 3 avec Aamir Khan et Bang Bang avec Hrithik Roshan.
