Leena Chandavarkar is an Indian former actress who appeared in Bollywood movies and now appears in reality shows.

Biography

Leena Chandavarkar was born to an Army officer in Dharwad in Karnataka in 1950.


Career
Leena Chandavarkar came into the limelight after finishing as one of the runners-up for the Fresh Face Competition organized across the country by Filmfare. Initially, she worked in advertisements but eventually ventured into films. She made her debut in Man Ka Meet for Sunil Dutt, and it was his wife Nargis who groomed her to be an actress. Between 1969 and 1979, Leena acted in many films. She was cast opposite many of popular heroes of that era. She gave one of her best performances in Mehboob Ki Mehndi with Rajesh Khanna in 1971.

Bairaag is another example where she acted with the great screen legend Dilip Kumar and a mighty star cast of Saira Bano, Prem Chopra and Helen.

She appeared as a guest judge for the first 2 episodes of "K for Kishore", a new reality TV singing show launched by Sony TV during December 2007. She is now appearing for the reality shows. She also penned some songs for Amit Kumar and Rajesh Bambal for a music album.

The story begins with a wealthy man selling all his estate in Africa, converting it to diamonds. He carries them in a belt. He suffers a heart attack in washroom and requests a passerby to deliver the diamonds to his son, Rajesh (Rishi Kapoor). The man is chased by goons who are after the diamonds. He hides them in a bicycle toolbox. The bicycle belongs to Sanjay Kumar (Tariq Khan), who is completely unaware that his bicycle has 25 Crore Rupees worth of diamonds hidden in its toolbox. Saudagar Singh (Amjad Khan) is after the diamonds and according to his plans he and his partner Ranbir Kumar Dana set a trap for Rajesh telling a false story to him. The whole plot is pretty speedy after that with Rajesh pretending as Manjeet Kumar Dana is to fall in love with Kajal (Kajal Kiran) who is actually in love with her childhood love, Sanjay. There are a series of meetings between the two.A few years ago when mother-less Kajal's father Kishorilal was in deep financial crisis, Sanjay's father gave shelter to Kajal's father, who has now become filthy rich. The promise of getting Sanjay and Kajol married is forgotten when Kishorilal Kajal's father insults them and forgets the promise that was made years prior. To unfold the plot, Sanjay becomes Manjeet's manager. Saudagar Singh (Amjad Khan) uses Manjeet to get the diamonds himself for the climax.

Kailash (Dilip Kumar) loses his eyesight after a car accident. His wife gives birth to twin boys, one of them blind. Before his wife gains consciousness, he asks the doctor to get rid of the blind baby, because he doesn't want his son to live a life where he can't see at all. The doctor's wife leaves the blind baby in a Hindu temple, where he is discovered by the temple priest who raises the boy, now called Bholenath (Dilip Kumar). Kailash feels guilty about what he did to the blind baby and confesses it to his wife several years later, who becomes so distraught that she dies. Kailash raises his other son Sanjay (Dilip Kumar), who turns into a spoiled rich boy. Although Sanjay is engaged to Sonia (Leena Chandavarkar), he continues to have an affair with Lucy (Helen), who has a rich dangerous boyfriend Grasco (Madan Puri). Sonia's greedy brother Kunwal (Prem Chopra) agrees to marry a country girl Tara (Saira Banu) but wants a Rs. 300,000 dowry. She doesn't want to marry him, because she is in love with Bholenath, even though he is poor and blind. Bholenath thinks that his status is beneath hers and that she deserves a rich suitor and steals the money from the Hindu temple to give to Kunwal for her dowry. His pet snake tries to stop him from giving the money by biting him. He regains his sight and vows to the temple priest(Nazir Hussain) and Tara to bring the money back from Kunwal. Once he reaches the city, people mistook him for Sanjay, who in turn, is hiding out with Lucy after she leaves Grasco along with Rs. 15,000,000. She is found dead with the money missing. Sanjay is the suspect. The film is resolved with the real culprit getting caught, and the two brothers reunited with their father, and then marrying their sweethearts.

After his business partner leaves him penniless, Parvati's husband passes away, leaving behind two sons, Prabhakar (Satyen Kappu), Sudhakar (Jeetendra) and a dumb daughter Gauri (Meena T), on the verge of destitution. When Prabhakar grows up, he marries Pooja (Kanan Kaushal) and moves out. Meanwhile, as time passes, Sudhakar grows up, completes his schooling, gets a job out of the town and relocates. When Gauri is not allowed to marry Murli (Asrani), she commits suicide and so does Murli, calling for Sudhakar back home. Sudhakar marries wealthy Padma (Leena Chandavarkar) and brings her home. Padma dislikes playing second fiddle even to Parvati leading to disagreements in the household. Padma's pregnancy too fails to resolve any of the problems. Thus the couple re-locates to Padma's palatial house in the city, leaving an ailing Parvati on her own. The rest of the film shows how Padma understands the value of family ties and brothers, Prabhakar and Sudhakar, get together to unite the family.
