Leonid Vyacheslavovich Kuravlyov (Russian: Леонид Вячеславович Куравлёв) (born October 8, 1936) is a Soviet/Russian actor and People's Artist of the RSFSR (1976).
Leonid Kuravlyov was born in Moscow in 1936. In 1941, Kuravlyov's mother was falsely accused and exiled to the Russian North, where they would spend several years until their return to Moscow. In 1955, Leonid Kuravlyov was accepted to the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography and began studying the art of acting.
Leonid n'est pas un élève brillant. Et surtout il n'aime pas les sciences exactes. Par boutade, sa sœur l'invite de venir étudier à l'Institut national de la cinématographie (VGIK). Cette blague a changé toute la vie de Leonid.
En 1953, le jeune homme passe le concours d'entrée au VGIK, à la Faculté des Acteurs, mais se voit recalé. Il réussit en 1955 et intègre la classe de maître de Boris Bibikov et le Théâtre national d'acteur de cinéma. Ses débuts au cinéma ont lieu alors qu'il est encore étudiant, dans une séquence du court métrage Il n'y aura pas de départ aujourd'hui d'Andreï Tarkovski.
Un demi-siècle plus tard, il a plus de 170 films à son actif.
Le 11 mars 2014, Kouravlev, avec d'autres artistes, se prononce en faveur de la politique de la Fédération de Russie lors de la Révolution ukrainienne de février 2014 et de la crise de Crimée, en signant une lettre ouverte publiée sur le site du Ministère de la Culture de Russie.

En 1941, Leonid et sa mère sont déportés au Goulag, dans le nord de la Russie (Zacheïek de l'oblast de Mourmansk), sur de fausses accusations. Jane Callahan (Julia Ormond), a beautiful American lady, writes to her son, a cadet at a famous military academy, about a long kept secret. Twenty years ago she arrived in Russia to assist Douglas McCracken (Richard Harris), an obsessive engineer who needs the Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich's patronage to sponsor his invention, a massive machine to harvest the forests. The plot unfolds during the last years of the Soviet Union.
