She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and died in Rome, Italy. Even making her film debut quite late, in her forty, Del Balzo was one of the most active character actresses in the Italian cinema, usually cast in humorous roles.
She was also active on stage and in the operetta, in which she met her then-husband, the tenor Guido Agnoletti.

Joe (Matthew Barry) is the son of famous opera singer Caterina Silveri (Jill Clayburgh). While Joe believes that Caterina's husband, Douglas Winter (Fred Gwynne), is his biological father, the truth is that he was sired by Caterina's former lover, who is now living in Italy and working as a schoolteacher. Joe is moody and rebellious and needs a strong father figure to guide him and keep him in line, but Douglas is ineffectual and emotionally weak, and when Joe witnesses the sudden death of Douglas, it sends him over the edge. In hopes of boosting her singing career, which has fallen into a rut, Caterina decides to move to Italy with her son. There, Joe falls in with a dangerous crowd and becomes addicted to heroin.

The melodrama is set in the torpid season of the Italian seaside resort Rimini, where the local town "bourgeoisie" pass their time gambling and leading a playboy lifestyle. Une compétition de bateaux, disputée par les partenaires Marco et Burt, tourne mal lorsque la mécanique de l'un des navires s'enraye. Les deux hommes se jettent à l'eau mais Marco est gravement blessé. Marco se met à sentir des non-dits, comme si, avant l'accident, certaines choses avaient été laissées en suspens. Bientôt, il soupçonne même une présence. D'autres images défilent : des souvenirs qui ressurgissent jusqu'au tourment, d'autant que Monica se refuse sexuellement à Marco, ajoutant ainsi à sa confusion. Non loin de la demeure, le jardinier lui annonce anonymement qu'un complot se trame contre lui et qu'il souhaite en parler avec lui. Mais il est aussitôt assassiné à coups de couteau... In Italy in the Sixties, a gang of American thieves arrive in Naples to steal the famous Treasure of San Gennaro. However the Americans do not know how to move in the picturesque town. For the customs of the natives are too weird and incomprehensible to them. So the two men and the girl (the gang members) go to a prison, following the advice of a friend. There he would find the man who would have done in their case. It is a certain Don Vincenzo, a very famous in the city for his theft. He however, since it is known by everyone there, is treated in the prison as a gentleman by the guards with all possible facilities. The Americans, when they see this type of treatment, impossible in a country like them, remain quite stunned. Don Vincenzo warmly received them and advises them to go to Naples to look for a certain Armandino Girasole, said "Dudù". He, a young thief by profession, would help them steal the treasure of San Gennaro, fortunately not mentioned by the Americans to Don Vincenzo. The Americans, keeping secret the purpose of theft, meet Dudù and agree with him.
