Maj-Britt Nilsson (11 December 1924 – 19 December 2006) was a Swedish movie actress of the 1940s and 1950s.

Nilsson was born in Stockholm and trained at the drama school of the Royal Dramatic Theater there. She appeared in the following three Ingmar Bergman films: Till Glädje (To Joy, 1950), Sommarlek (Summer Interlude or Illicit Interlude 1951), and Kvinnors Väntan (Secrets of Women or Waiting Women, 1952). She also appeared in the English language film A Matter of Morals (1961), directed in Sweden by John Cromwell.

Maj-Britt Nilsson died in Cannes, France, aged 82. Her death, which was not widely reported outside Sweden, was confirmed by Jon Asp, executive editor of the online publication Ingmar Bergman Face to Face. No cause was announced.

In 1951 she married Per Gerhard, a theater director and son of Karl Gerhard, a prominent Swedish singer, who survives her.

Biography

De 1944 à 1947, Maj-Britt Nilsson étudie l'art du théâtre à la Dramatens elevskola (l'école du Théâtre dramatique royal, en suédois Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern, abrégé Dramaten). Elle débute en 1945 au Dramaten, où elle joue jusqu'en 1952, notamment dans des pièces mises en scène par Alf Sjöberg et Ingmar Bergman, qu'elle retrouve tous deux au cinéma. Entre 1941 et 1977, elle apparaît surtout dans des films suédois, mais aussi dans quelques productions étrangères (voir la filmographie qui suit). Enfin, pour la télévision, elle participe à deux épisodes d'une série américaine en 1953 et 1954, ainsi qu'à un téléfilm en 1963.

In the opening scene, John Hay Forrest (George Gaynes), noted scientist and cheesemaker, dies in a single-vehicle car accident (represented by the car wreck scene from Keeper of the Flame). In the next scene, private investigator Rigby Reardon (Steve Martin) is reading a newspaper when Forrest's daughter, Juliet (Rachel Ward), enters his office and faints when the paper's headline reminds her of her father's death. Upon coming to, she hires Rigby to investigate the death, which she thinks was murder. In Dr. Forrest's lab, Rigby finds two lists, one titled "Friends of Carlotta" and the other "Enemies of Carlotta", as well as an affectionately autographed photo of singer Kitty Collins, whose name appears on one of the lists. His search is interrupted by a man posing as an exterminator (Alan Ladd, in This Gun for Hire), who shoots Rigby in the arm and frisks the lists from the seemingly dead investigator.

Marie (Nilsson) is a successful but emotionally distant prima ballerina in her late twenties.
