Two guys called Gouranga (Ritwick Chakraborty) and Gobindo (Jisshu Sengupta) meet in a nightclub and strike up a friendship and their cell phones get exchanged . When Gobinda comes to return the phone to Gouranga, he discovers that Gouranga has a cousin called Banya (Payel Sarkar) who is obsessed with Salman Khan and with the name called Prem and desires a boyfriend called Prem. So, he becomes Prem to impress her. Gouranga also lands up at Gobinda’s house and discovers that he has got a sister called Rai (Sumita) who desires a boyfriend called Prem and so he too becomes Prem too impress her. Just when the confusion had started, there was a complete chaos. Banya lands up at Gobindo’s place and discovers he is not Prem. Her dominating mother (Sudipa Basu) lands up there with her helping hand, Kandarpo (Kanchan Mullick), who is the would-be-suitor for Banya. Just when he reveals facts like Gobindo being an adopted son, it turns out to be much more than that and finally it is seen that Gobindo and Gouranga are brothers and so Banya is their cousin and therefore Gobindo can’t be with Banya anymore.

The film revolved around women of three generations and their lives and changing position in society. And this is shown in relation to a jewellery box. The lead character is the matriarch of a Bengali Hindu family (Moushumi Chatterjee) of landed gentry in East Bengal. She was married off in an arranged marriage at age 11, and widowed shortly thereafter. The story of the film revolves around her wedding jewels, which she keeps sequestered in a box. After becoming a victim of ethnic cleansing during the partition of India, her family moves to the Republic of India from East Pakistan, losing their ancestral lands in the process. She spends the remainder of her life, apparently as a chaste widow, hiding her wedding jewels from her greedy relatives in the joint family. In 1949, she befriends the new bride of the family, her niece-in-law (Konkona Sen Sharma) shortly before dying.

The film is revolving round Rupak Chowdhury (Tapas Paul) and his mentally retarded brother Joy (New comer JOY) along with their step brother Rohit and sister Rinki. They live with their step uncle Ahi mama (Manoj Mitra) and his wife, who conspire against them. Joy was given poisonous medicines since his childhood by Ahimama and his Dr. friend which has damaged his nervous system. Nobody loves Joy without Rupak & their servant Harikaka (Kharaj Mukherjee). For a change Rupak takes Joy to their village where they meet two sisters Mukul (Rachana Banerjee) and Bakul (Swastika Mukherjee). Incidentally Rupak marries Mukul but when they return to home, the bad-guies deny to accept her as Rupak’s wife and continuously blame her for their sudden misfortune. Mukul leaves home with Joy to cure him. After consulting a doctor she sends Joy to “Ananda Ashram” under the supervision of Maharaj (Sabyasachi Chakrabarty). On the other hand, Ahimama sends his friend’s daughter Kitty (Locket Chatterjee) to woo Rohit but when Kitty comes to know about their conspiracy they kill her. Slowly Rinki and Rohit understand that they are being misguided by their beloved uncle & aunt, but it’s too late. Ahimama kidnaps Rupak and Mukul- Bakul’s parents & kills Harikaka. So Mukkul Bakul and Joy come to rescue Rupak, fight bravely but Rupak and Rohit both die while fighting. Joy kills his Ahimama, takes his revenge, then goes to jail, writes his autobiography “Lakshyabhed” in jail and then comes out from jail to live happily ever after with his family.
