Mariangela Melato (19 September 1941 – 11 January 2013) was an Italian cinema and theater actress. She began her stage career in the sixties and entered the film industry with her debut film Thomas e gli indemoniati directed by Pupi Avati. She had done so many memorable films in the seventies which was considered as her golden age. She received much praise for her roles in films like Between Miracles (1971), The Seduction of Mimi (1972), Love and Anarchy (1973), Nada (1974), Todo modo (1976) and Il gatto (1978). Melato also starred on several American productions as well.

Biography

Mariangela Melato fait ses premiers pas dans la vie comme modéliste à l'âge de seize ans, puis débute au théâtre grâce à Luchino Visconti en 1967. Au cinéma, elle est dirigée par de grands réalisateurs comme Comencini, Chabrol, Petri, Avati et surtout Lina Wertmuller qui en fait son actrice fétiche. Elle se spécialise très tôt dans des rôles de composition où elle excelle (la révolutionnaire de Nada, la vieille fille cupide de Qui a tué le chat ? ou la paysanne républicaine de L'Arbre de Guernica).

Récompensée par de nombreux prix d'interprétation dans son pays, elle s'est consacrée de plus en plus à la télévision et au théâtre depuis la fin des années 1980.

Mariangela est morte d'un cancer du pancréas le 11 janvier 2013 à Rome, en Italie, à l'âge de 71 ans.

Luca Florio (Fabrizio Bentivoglio) est un célèbre acteur italien, actuellement au travail sur le tournage d'une importante production et occupé par ailleurs à la préparation de son premier film. In a cemetery in Rome, at night, the soldier Camillo arrives among the graves. The rude and crude keeper Domenico welcomes him and makes him sit in a chapel. NYC dress manufacturer Jack (Warden) is in debt to loan shark "Mr Eddie" (Kiel), who tells him that Jack's son Bobby (O'Neal) must join the firm as "new blood", despite Bobby's complete lack of knowledge of the dress business, and current career as a Professor of American Literature at a small liberal arts college. Kidnapped by two of Eddie's goons, Bobby is forced to come back to the city and join his father's business. Bobby complicates matters by falling in love with Mr Eddie's neglected wife, the cultured Lira (Melato). After a late-night tryst at the home of Eddie and Lira, Bobby accidentally invents the solution to his father's problem: see-through denim blue jeans with strategically placed holes in the rear that expose one's backside. The fickle public goes crazy over the "sexy" new style. "Fine Fashions" repays its debt to Eddie, and Bobby goes back to his college. However, Lira follows him, and Eddie finds out about them and heads to the school in a murderous rage. Jack follows anxiously, and the last quarter of the film involves Lira stepping in for an ill singer to perform the role of Desdemona in the school's version of the opera Otello. Eddie knocks out the male lead and himself takes the role of Othello. Jack and Bobby then do their best to stay alive while trying to protect Lira from her jealous husband.
