Suzanne (Dina Meyer) and her 7-year-old stepdaughter Molly Driscoll (Cassandra Sawtell) move into a new house, where Molly acquires an imaginary friend named Candace Brewer (Nicole Muñoz). Later, it is revealed that a girl by that name lived in the house about a century earlier. Her mother died during childbirth of her baby sister, Dora. Candace took her baby sister and left her on a church steps so she didn't have to suffer the abuse from her father like she did. When she returned home, her father knew she took the baby and hung Candace on the apple tree in the backyard. Everyone believed 10-year-old Candace hung herself so she was buried in the part of the cemetery where sinners were buried, since suicide was considered a sin. The plot centers around whether Candace is indeed imaginary or is a malevolent ghost. Despite Suzanne's effort to evict the ghost out of her new husband's house, Candace still held the threat of making Suzanne's new family shatter. All the while, Suzanne's husband remains unbelieving of all of this.

Two friends, Danny (John White), and Phil (Dan Warry-Smith) live in a Mississippi town near a swamp. There is a local legend of a swamp-dwelling creature called "Gator Face". They construct a Gator Face costume by modifying a wetsuit. After scaring most of the townsfolk, the pranks make national news, drawing the attention of the National Guard. Danny soon discovers that Gator Face is real and friendly. After Danny, along with his friends Phil and Angel (Charlotte Sullivan), saves Gator Face from a trap, they realize that Gator Face is protecting the swamps. Danny learns that the National Guard will kill Gator Face if he is caught so the three friends resolve to save the monster. Danny's older brother Chip (Gordon Michael Woolvett) shoots at Danny (while Danny is dressed as Gator Face) with a flare gun and misses when Danny flees into a nearby building. The townsfolk think Danny is the real Gator Face and burns the building with Danny in it, the real Gator Face jumps in and saves Danny but is himself shot. Yet the swamp won't let its defender die, so the fog heals Gator Face and the day is saved.

Charlotte is a "chaste" good girl, who is having some very bad dreams about sex. Her dreams are the only place where her dream lover is a dark, handsome vampire; however, that is a bit of a dilemma for her real-life boyfriend, who is not quite as fascinating as the vampire dream boy. Charlotte is given the choice between staying with her life as she knows it, or becoming a part of the vampire's world. There is also the usual struggle between such opposing entities, as Charlotte sees that not only does she have to choose between her boyfriend and her mysterious nighttime visitor, but also between light and dark, and good and evil. In the end, after briefly kissing Milo and being interrupted by Eliza, the campus slut (who was killed by the vampire by banging her head against the wall, then licking the blood from the wall), she ends up having the dream one last time. This time, the vampire is telling her to come to him, as he believes there is nothing left for her here (on earth). After some dream scenes, finally, Charlotte is in the tower with the vampire. Chris (her boyfriend) is there, but the vampire pushes Chris away, and is about to put the bite on her when she utters Chris's name; he at first tells her not to think of Chris and instead think of himself and her as a couple. Then, after Charlotte utters Chris's name again, the vampire then says that she cannot take his life to the eternal life, and disappears. Charlotte and Chris wake up in the morning and kiss, and the vampire is destroyed while laying in a sunbeam.

In 1997, Los Angeles is suffering from both a heat wave and a turf war between heavily armed Colombian and Jamaican drug cartels. A Predator watches a shootout between the police and Colombians, observing as Lieutenant Michael Harrigan charges into the firefight to rescue two wounded officers and drive the Colombians back into their hideout. While the police are ordered to wait for a federal task force to arrive on the scene, the Predator crashes through a skylight and attacks the Colombians. Harrigan and his police detectives Leona Cantrell and Danny Archuleta enter against orders and find the Colombians have been slaughtered. Harrigan pursues the gang leader onto the roof and shoots him, catching a glimpse of the camouflaged Predator's silhouette, but dismissing him as an effect of the heat. Harrigan is rebuked by his superiors for his disobedience. He is also introduced to Special Agent Peter Keyes, leader of the task force who are purportedly investigating the cartels, and Detective Jerry Lambert, the newest member of Harrigan's team.

The movie features two 15-year-old girls, Zoe (Sarah Bolger) and Shelby (Emily Osment). Based on the true story of Lizzie Borden, a Sunday School teacher who lived with her father Andrew, her stepmother Abby, and her older sister Emma in a small house in Fall River, Massachusetts, the film depicts a hot summer day in August 1892 in the Borden home where Lizzie comes across the grisly murder scene of her father who was brutally killed with a hatchet. After local law enforcement responds to the scene, the body of Abby Borden is discovered upstairs, also killed with an ax. As the case progresses, the evidence gathered by the authorities seems to point to Lizzie as their prime suspect. Lizzie's lawyer Andrew Jennings, however, maintains that a woman could not commit such a cruel act; arguing it is far too gruesome a crime for any woman to commit. Regardless, Lizzie is put on trial for the murders and the courtroom case makes headlines in newspapers throughout the country. Newspaper accounts state the crime to be the most infamous of the century. Eventually, the jury finds Lizzie innocent of all charges. The film ends with a fight between Emma and Lizzie, in which Lizzie asks Emma if she wanted know the truth. Lizzie then whispers inaudibly into Emma's ear while a series of flashbacks are shown in which Lizzie murders their stepmother and father. It is heavily implied that Lizzie Borden was in fact their murderer, and a visibly upset Emma leaves the room. Lizzie walks outside and hears three children jump roping to the famous nursery rhyme: "Lizzie Borden took an ax/ And gave her mother forty wacks/ And when she saw what she had done/ She gave her father forty-one." Emma is then shown leaving the house, never to return.

In the metropolis of Champion City, the would-be superhero team of Mr. Furious (Ben Stiller), The Shoveler (William H. Macy), and The Blue Raja (Hank Azaria) attempt to make a name for themselves, but their suspect skills make them ineffective, and they find themselves upstaged by the city's most successful superhero, Captain Amazing (Greg Kinnear). The plan backfires; once reunited with Tony P (Eddie Izzard) and his Disco Boys, Casanova Frankenstein blows up the insane asylum, captures Amazing, and prepares to unleash a doomsday device: the "Psycho-frakulator", which lethally bends reality.
