Marlene Clark (born December 19, 1949) is an American actress best known for her titular role in the 1973 horror film Ganja & Hess and Janet Lawson in the 1970s sitcom Sanford and Son.

Biography

In 1968, Clark married Billy Dee Williams in Hawaii. She is step mother to his son Corey, from his first marriage. Their marriage lasted only two years and they officially divorced in 1971.

At one point in her life, Clark experienced a car accident. In a 2000 interview, Clark claimed she was almost raped while filming a scene in one of her movies.

The film follows Dr. Hess Green (Duane Jones), a wealthy black anthropologist who is doing research on the Myrthians, an ancient African nation of blood drinkers. One night, while staying in Green's lavish mansion --richly decorated with African art--, Green's unstable assistant George Meda (writer/director Gunn), attempts suicide. Green successfully talks him down, but later that night Meda attacks and stabs Green with a Myrthian ceremonial dagger, and then kills himself. Green, discovering the body, drinks Meda's blood and becomes a vampire endowed with immortality and a need for fresh blood.
