Martin Ťapák, né à Liesek (Tchécoslovaquie) le 13 octobre 1926 et mort à Bratislava (Slovaquie) le 1er février 2015, est un réalisateur, acteur, danseur et chorégraphe slovaque, père de l'acteur Marek Ťapák .

Biography

Martin Ťapák suit les cours au conservatoire de Bratislava. Entre 1945 et 1950, il est comédien et assistant-metteur en scène au Théâtre national slovaque. En 1956, il est diplômé en chorégraphie à l'École supérieure des arts de la scène de Bratislava. Il est chorégraphe et directeur du Folk Art Ensemble slovaque (SĽUK) de 1950 à 1958, puis, entre 1959 et 1960 à la Laterna magika à Prague. L'année suivante, il est réalisateur pour le cinéma à Bratislava.

In 1874, the U.S. government encroaches on the lands of the Lakota people. Mattotaupa, an Oglala Lakota man, gambles with Red Fox, a White criminal, in a saloon. When seeing he has gold, Red Fox demands to know its origin. Mattotaupa refuses, and Red Fox murders him. Mattotaupa's son, the young and fierce warrior Tokei-ihto who mistrusts the Whites and never drinks their "Firewater", witnesses the murder.

In the year 2163 the starship Ikarie XB-1 (Ikarus XB-1) is sent to the mysterious "White Planet" orbiting the star Alpha Centauri. Travelling at near-light speed, the journey takes around 28 months for the astronauts, although the effects of relativity mean that 15 years will have elapsed on Earth by the time they reach their destination. During the flight the 40-strong multinational crew must adjust to life in space, as well as dealing with various hazards they encounter, including a derelict 20th century spaceship armed with nuclear weapons, a deadly radioactive "dark star" and the mental breakdown of one of the crew, who threatens to destroy the spacecraft.
